Are you celebrating the New Year?

No drinking for me and the hubby today or tonight. Before recovery and then since I have been in recovery, I have heard many people say, we are staying in tonight as it is amateur night. This means that people will be out who don’t know how to hold their drinks and there will be accidents and it will be drunk and ugly, a fright.

My daughter and her hubby and little ones are camping tonight. Our youngest daughter and her husband are going to Mexico to spend time at an all-inclusive. We have teen grandchildren that will be out and others that want to be out with friends.

I suppose we can just pretend they are all home safe in their beds. JK That is not me. The thing is I won’t hear from any family or friends that are out drinking or using as they know I am not into that and probably don’t have much to say either way.

When I was newly sober my mother would whisper to her friends or family to not bring alcohol into the house when I was there. I’m not sure what she thought I would do if they did. It did irritate me at first. Then later, I realized she did believe I had a problem with alcohol.

A sober friend of ours was asked to provide sober rides tonight and he said, “I don’t want to be out with all those drunks!” I guess I probably wouldn’t volunteer for that duty either, even though it would be nice if someone did it!

When I asked my hubby what he had to say about 2024, the New Year, he started this, and I finished it:

Thank God for twenty twenty-four.

This year has not been good and more!

We had terrible luck with our trucks.

Mine stopped running and that sucks.

~

Our pumps went out way too soon yuck!

For our sewer and water system, not our luck.

Destination wedding, we didn’t plan on.

Money, we didn’t have and then there was John

~

He was covering my way, and boy did he

A car rental and plane flight. A big fee!

The apartment rental and all expenses

Well, insurance handled altitude defenses.

~

The chimney went and shouldn’t have, see

some of the expense was on me

Here I sit as happy as can be

Moving into this, a Happy New Year!

At least it doesn’t have us drinking beer!

~

We will be home tonight, and no regrets

we will cheer for all of you with your bets

at the casino and welcoming in the New Year

whether you are at home, or here or there.

~~

It hasn’t been the best year, we expected some of the things mentioned to last many more years and then we talked to others about how things just aren’t being made to last like they used to be. We talked about how destination weddings are the thing right now but that will pass too.

My family couldn’t afford to go anywhere so I would never have thought of getting married somewhere else. Maybe it has to do with how everyone was so isolated for so long. On a positive note, we shouldn’t have to replace most of the items we did again in our lifetime.

We are grateful for our full and happy lives and for our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. There are many benefits to being retired and having a large family. I believe in prayer and am sending each of you prayers for a good New Year!

My husband John and I do wish everyone a safe and happy New Year and many more years to come.
