a poem

By Debbi ODerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

i see a glimpse, faded stardust drops in my peripheral

barely glitter in the darkness

my head wants to see the light, so I turn it slowly, try to sneak up on it.

There’s nothing left but the shadow of what I probably imagined I saw

Isolation like an anchor

Sucks me further and further under the murky water. I’m grasping.

For breath

The weight of depression sinks

Me

The bottom is hard.

Out of the corner of my eye

Tiny orbs, rainbows in bubbles

Bristle upward

With intention!

Where did they come from?

Where are they going?

Is there air, there?

This is the year that almost ended me.

But out of nowhere, maybe

Only my imagination

There was glitter dusting the darkness.

Beckoning me to follow.

Limp from the struggle I Might as well have given up

But in the abandonment of anger

the surrender of fear, I

Float

O yes there is light!

Blistering, blinding.

And air: FRAGRANT, SALTY, FLORAL, GREEN.

In that breath, what I imagined might be my last

there was hope like glitter.

dusting the darkness.
