20 Lives
A Poem to Remind Us That Nothing Goes to Waste
Twenty Lives,
Twenty faces,
Twenty smiles,
Forty hands,
Two Hundred Fingers,
A thousand emotions,
A hundred stories,
A handful retold,
But none forgot.
How did we get here?
What twists and turns,
Brought us and built us,
Into who we are now?
Failure? Success?
Elation? Disappointment?
Which stories do we remember?
And which mustn’t we forget?
We’ve all laughed.
We’ve all cried.
We’ve all won.
We’ve all lost.
We’ve all failed.
We’ve all achieved,
Yet no story is alike.
How did we get here?
Where are we going?
How do we get there?
What do we need?
Does our past sleep behind us,
Untouched and unseen?
Or does it lay the foundations
Under our feet?
Twenty faces,
Twenty smiles,
Forty hands,
Two hundred fingers,
A thousand emotions,
A hundred stories,
A handful retold,
But none forgot
