15 Cheeseburgers

An ode to the homeless soldier I met on the streets of D.C - who just wanted a cheeseburger and a milkshake

Cornerstones were laid to prepare the foundations

for surpassing unimaginable levels of extreme elevation.

While dark skinned humans laid down their stolen bodies

in an unfair fight for the daydream of salvation.

Black soldier, spoon fed hearty lies cooked into processed truths

while white leaders preached on about “anything is possible”.

Black soldier, fought for their country while being given

fancy drugs to feel the rich power of becoming unstoppable.

Injured black soldier, with foreign bullets wedged behind the clavicle,

homeless, begging for change on a rundown bicycle;

hunting for fifteen cheeseburgers and a milkshake

to stay fed through winter's reign of icicles.

When the fight is for food, freedom, and the right to work,

the oppressed must commit treason in the eyes of the

righteous for hope to have a chance to work.

Inferiority is a term coined by insecure people

who are horrified of unification, and terrified of becoming equal.

The capacity of privilege must not be allowed to dictate segregation.

Every human on planet Earth has a beating heart, and every

single living person is the product of cultural migration.

Dark skinned humans laid down their STOLEN BODIES - such a powerful description. Unfortunately, Racism is still front and center. All veterans should be honored and cared for appropriately and color blind.

Breathtakingly sad, but beautifully written--well done as always!

This is beautiful. It breaks my heart that a soldier who gave everything for his country is homeless and begging for a cheeseburger and milkshake. How sad and how bad it speaks of the country he served.
