111-Word Story: Bicycle Dibacle

My personal word-count challenge

By Gabriel B. ShamesPublished 6 months ago • 1 min read
Bicycle, bicycle, bi-cycllle… race

Along a canyon embankment, Jared, Peggy, and four boys gathered on their bikes. They all counted to three in unison and began to race.

Jared pulled ahead. Peggy was neck-and-neck for second place. After 40 seconds, Jared turned and saw that Peggy was falling to 3rd.

The gap between 1st and 2nd was narrowing. He spun into overdrive.

Another 40 seconds… he was leading by yards.

Peggy was in 4th, and pushed so hard she gave herself a stitch.

Then… CRAAACK!

An avalanche of boulders tumbled down. They crushed Jared’s front wheel and he went flying.

Three injured. Peggy ripped her shirt for tourniquets, yelling at the others to get help.
