"Oh you don't wanna miss it"

"Never seen anything like it"

Dusk outside

Hallway dim

Never at school this late

Round the corner

Past drab wooden door

Into the classroom

Past the throng

Voices clamor

"Look at that"

Glass tank spans wall

Monkey stands inside

Watching us

Watching him

"What next?"

"Any minute now"

"Oh—there, look!"

Parachute down

Suckers unfurl

Eight arms roll chrysanthemum in flight

Red-orange mass rippling wildfire

Emerge into light

Beyond the glass

"What a specimen"

"Oh, it's happening!"

Simian stand stock-still

Mannequin monkey—

Mollusk

Look, class

See cephalopod engulf

Flaming arms flit over fur

Surround

Devour

"Wow"

About the Creator

MA Snell

I'm your typical Portlander in a lot of ways. Queer, cheerfully nihilistic, trying to make a quiet name for myself in a big small town. My writing tends to be creepy and—let's hope—compelling. Beware; and welcome.
