my senses bade me tarry

the thick white clouds race across the indigo sky

hiding the stars in a syncopated light show

now listen, to the wind blowing through the trees

it sounds like the ocean here on the earth

the ebb and flow whispering between the branches

oh, were i that tree

my limbs, the boughs through which the wind whispers

my hair swaying like elegant Spanish moss

my rings each one a jewel of stability and longevity

a little sparrow fast asleep in my embrace

as starlight fades to azure blue

my dew-kissed leaves glisten in the morning sun

as the sleepy earth awakes

oh, were i that tree

i'd tarry for all my days.
