Lungs

By Lindsey Robinson Published 5 years ago • 1 min read

A breath

Shallow,

Cold and glistening

My bare chest shivering under the pale

Clouds

Shining.

Snow falling like a soft kiss

Melting on my cheeks and

Telling me to cry with them

But I’m frozen like a body

Tossed into an icy lake

I’m cold as a corpse, here

But that’s alight,

Yeah...

Everything’s alright.

Right?

A flower is growing behind my back

And maybe if I lay a little longer

Spring will rise up through my ribs

Reminding me death is a healing

Process

We must return our bodies to the earth

When we need rest

And then,

Something beautiful will bloom again.

I see you now,

Through eyes clear as death

I see you now, and

I’m no longer afraid

The sun came out and melted the snow

My body faded from pale blue to pink

And my heart began to beat

My mouth opened and a breath dissolved

Butterflies erupting from my lips

I sit up like a lightning strike

Place my warm hands on my chest

To see the flower growing

My body blooming once again

Rising with my fresh new being

Running, jumping, screaming my joy

I’m alive again!

I’m revived by spring.

The winter of my past life has ended

I am reborn.

My breath is new.
