The soft patter of raindrops on still leaves

first one, then two

then many

signals a gentle evening shower

almost pastoral

the world was quiet

in the quenching

and my thoughts

meander back to

when you came close

when you taught me

to color outside the lines

for the first time in

my monochromatic life

i knew what color feels like

I knew how feelings are color

but now

the soft patter of raindrops.
