in my quiet place

under the trees

gusts of wind are busy

cajoling the tired leaves

into giving up and falling

onto the green grass below

where they frolic

unfettered

the earth is alive

butterflies meander past

as an ant nonchalantly

walks across my arm

on its way to somewhere

that perhaps is a mystery

to both of us

a bluebird is taking

a bath in a rhythmic

array of splashes

and stillness

the Spanish moss is swaying

to the beat of

the wind

like chandeliers

swinging from the branches

the morning sun illuminates

dragonflies and

butterflies

cavorting on the

wings of the wind

the droning of a small plane

in the distance

and cars going by

down on the highway

the only sounds that

remind me that i'm still

in the middle of civilization

i like it here

my bruisings feel soothed

when i shut off my mind

so that my heart can

refocus

and regroup

and it's only by the

grace of God

and His fingerprints

on my heart

and my soul

that i have this place

under the trees

to regenerate.
