The Gateways to your Soul.

Once more we have a mural and piece of street art which I cannot explain, except to say, the eyes belong to an aged man, with tired eyes, but then again the eyes are the gateway to your soul which is much older than the flesh.

The Dancers

Irish Dancers.

The next few of murals and pieces of street art can be found just off Royal Avenue, in the center of Belfast City, just up from the burnt out shell of the old bank building, where Primark use to be before their devastating fire a few months ago, and this after a 16 million face lift.

As you can see on the mural and piece of street art above there is three young girls Irish Dancing, which is a massive activity in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and Worldwide.

The River Dance Show comes from the Republic of Ireland and was first seen at the European Song Contest in Ireland, which blew the world away when they first saw it, and it has been going strong ever since, spurning many an Irish Dancer throughout the four corners of the earth.

The Duet

Irish Dancers.

Whether it is murals, pieces of painted street art, sculptures or modern art, all are worth a visiting if you are ever visiting Belfast, or Northern Ireland in general.

So if you are in Belfast at present and happen to read my stories and photographs, or your visiting Belfast and Northern Ireland in the near future, or possibly return for another visit, get out and about and take a walk through the back streets of Belfast City, for many are the gems hidden from the tourist trails.

The Women Workers

The Back Bone of the Family.

Without women this world would not be able to function and that is the truth regardless if you are a man or a woman.

None of us would be here without our mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers etc.

Yet it is only in these last few years that women are beginning to get the recognition they truly deserve in the work place, and upon murals and pieces of street art, where before it was all him, him, him, with very little she, she, she.

Market Day

The Flower Seller.

As a child market day in Lisburn, County Antrim, Northern Ireland use to be a place of wonder with all its smells and noise, and it use to be quite a large market as did many other market days throughout Northern Ireland, but alas all the markets are gone and lost the the annals of time, which is truly said, so gone are the old days.

Now most in Northern Ireland flock to the European Market in front of Belfast City Hall, which arrives around Christmas time and where bargains are few and far between.

Old Traders

Bygone Days.

Sadly also, most of the above traders are now gone, this is mainly due to the big supermarkets, which replaced the small family business's, and with 14 shops closing every day in the UK this trend is not going to stop anytime soon.

As already written, when the Primark fire destroyed the bank building on High Street, Belfast, which was there for over 100 years, the shops around it, and especially in Castle Street are now struggling to survive with so many roads closed until the building is either pulled down, but being a listed buildings, foolishly this will not happen, or it is renovated, which will take years, then the struggling shops will eventually close down as some have already done.

Oh La La

The Dress Shop.

Without a government in Northern Ireland, most projects are on hold until the Northern Irish Politicians start to get on. But pigs might fly first, and with 14 shops closing every day in the UK this winter looks bleak as earthly human beings search out their online bargains, and who can blame them?!

If you can get it cheaper anywhere else, then anyone with sense would do it. That is what the rich do, though they would not admit this truth, but I tell you this folks, the rich are bigger penny pinchers than the middle and lower classes, and modern times has dealt a blow to that which was once common on the high street. Gone are the family, friendly businesses.
