dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
Roxy and Nicole
My dad and I are watching soap operas with my mom in her living room. All of a sudden, we hear a knock on the door, moms’ dog begins to bark, so she puts her dog in the back yard. Momma unlocks the door to my Grannie holding something in her hands. I hear a soft whimper, excited, I spring up off the couch as my heart flutters. I look in her arms to see a tiny chiweenie. It was so tiny it almost looked like a mouse.

Princess Leia: Origins
This is Leia, and of course she is a princess. She is a mix between a Golden Retriever and a German Shepherd, and probably a little bit of other breeds. I have never met a dog like her in my entire life. She has so much spirit and so much love to give that I can't fathom how I am worthy of her.

Life With Shelby: Part 1
Since I was a child, there has always been a part of my heart dedicated to animals. Its a part that can't possibly be filled by anything else. Growing up, there were rarely any pet-free days. When there were, my parents were dealing with endless pleas for all types of critters. In my adult life I have only permanently acquired one animal: a cat called Connor. His entire body fit in my hands, as the spindly little runt of the litter. When I met him, I was visiting my uncle's farm prior to his funeral. Connor is the only thing I have from my uncle now, and the kitten was named for him as well. He has gone through many stages of life with me, and he has become my heart and soul. I am not a diehard cat person, but this one particular cat is a permanent part of me. I am also a practicing falconer, and keep hawks six months out of the year. The individual birds will not be permanent, but the entirety of my identity will always be defined by falconry and the birds will always have a role in my life. I currently have two extra cats; both came to me with identical sicknesses a year and a half apart. Minnie was the first, a little female that has failed to grow beyond 'kitten-collar' size. She has been with me for a long time and I love her truly; however, she still needs to find that one place where she belongs. The second is a male called Kirby. He has only been here for two months, and will likely be on his way before he reaches a third. Only a week or so prior to him, I had rehomed another kitten that I had plucked out of the highway's centerline, in the middle of heavy traffic.

My Name Is Lucy!
Hello all! My name is Lucy Esmeralda McGillicuddy Ricardo McCormick. I know. My mom named me after one of her favorite TV characters. You know, one of those ones where it only aired in black and white? What do I know, I only see in black and white anyway. But anyhow, I am what you call a Shiba Inu, i.e. one of the most stubborn dogs known to wander on this earth. I am basically the Japanese version of a beagle. Mommy always has to keep me on a leash because if she lets me off the leash, I like to run and run until I've had enough. You see, I was bred to hunt so I absolutely LOVE the chase. But anywho, let me tell you more about myself!

Pets... Are They Just Furry Companions or Furry Children?
There's always been a debate whether or not you're parents when you only have a four legged furry friend running around the house. Some say because you didn't give birth to it yourself, it's not your child. But you also put the time when they are puppies to teach them manners, potty train them, keep them out of trouble, and make sure they get all the love and attention they need. Or if they're like my dog the attention she wants when she wants it. But I think that's most dogs and cats. When they want attention they get it no matter what.

10 Things - A Dog's Life
Milo, my cavalier, is three this year—at the very end of the year none the less. He's grown so much since I got him back in June of 2015—he was just six months old, full of excitement, cuddles, and not to mention his adoring love for my arm.

Life With Kiya
How this spunky little Dachshund came to me might not seem like a heartwarming story, or might even be considered boring, but it's a sweet story nonetheless. At least, that's what I think. Princess Kiya (pronounced like the car) was born on November 19, 2016, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to a litter of four. She is the second smallest of her litter. Both of her parents are pure-breed dachshunds, though only her father has papers. My boyfriend and I adopted her on January 21, 2017. It was a Saturday night, and she'd just turned nine weeks old that very day; I remember that much.

Puppy Parenting
When Mary became part of our family, she offered something very special. She was rejected by her birth mother and had to be bottle-fed by her mother's owner. She was the runt of the litter. The time came for her to be adopted out and happily she was given to a couple of men that saw her and had no problem giving up $400 for a blue fawn pit bull puppy. She was happy and healthy until the men were evicted, leaving her and other pets alone in the apartment until they could find somewhere to go. They didn't find a place to go...
