According to Wikipedia, Rabbits are small mammals in the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha. Oryctolagus cuniculus includes the European rabbit species and its descendants, the world's 305 breeds of domestic rabbit. Sylvilagus includes 13 wild rabbit species, among them the seven types of cotton tail.

But people know little or nothing specific about them. Below are 33 most interesting facts that will blow your mind!.

1. In Queensland (Australia), it's illegal to own a rabbit unless you're a Magician.

2. Rabbit and Hares are not of same species, hares are born with open eyes, and fur and run away from predators as a means of escaping them, Rabbit don't see at birth, and are born without hair and dig burrows to live and hide in the wild.

3. 24 rabbits escaped in Australia and grew to a total population of 10 billion in about 67 years.

4. Contrary to popular belief, Rabbits shouldn't eat carrots in large amounts, it also doesn't eat roots, but fruits or iceberg lettuce. It makes them to develop tooth decay and digestive problems.

5. About 500,000,000 rabbits, died of skin tumors and blindness within 2 weeks due to a disease called myxomatosis which was introduced in 1950 in Australia to control their population.

6. In Japan, there a place known as the Rabbit Island which is in present day Okunoshima, it's filled with wild rabbits which grew to a huge population from the 5 that were left there in the 1960's, there are no natural predators to check their population pool and tourist who usually visit feed them. The rabbits are people friendly and would swarm them with cuddles.

7. Until the 7th century AD, Rabbits weren't kept as pets, but the real reasons behind this was that the catholic church ruled that fetal Rabbits were a type of fish and was OK to consume during lent.

8.Rabbits are not to be given full body baths, because they're always usually clean and terrified of water and might die of shock.

9. The sumatran jungle Rabbit is the only striped Rabbit in existence.

10. Rabbits can grow horns due to a virus known as Shope pailloma

11. In 1807, Napoleon Bonaparte and his men were attacked by 3000 rabbits during a hunting expedition, they tried to fight them off but were overwhelmed and had to escape to safety.

19. A herd of rabbits is called a "Warren"

21. Every Warren has nest grounds with rooms built with so many quick exits, incase of predatorial attacks.

22. They're social animals and are best adopted in compatible pairs

23. Their teeth and nails never stop growing, so if you've a domestic rabbit, it should be trimmed every 6 weeks and monitor their eating habits to make sure their teeth aren't overgrown, so they won't have difficulty eating.

24. They're crepuscular, which means they're mostly active at dawn or dusk.

26. People impulsively buy rabbits at the pet store because of the serotonin (happy feeling hormones) released each time they notice how adorable they look .

27. Jack Rabbits can run at speeds of 45 mile per hour

29. A group of Rabbits born at the same time is called a Litter, and they it contains an average of 4 -12 babies, and which are the results of a 30 day gestation period.

30. Male rabbits become mature as early as 7 months while the female at 4 months. This means it could take only one year for a single female rabbit to have 800 children, grandchildren and great grand Children, Talk about that!.

31. A male rabbit is called a Buck, while a female is called a Doe.

32. Rabbits are herbivores, a great consumer of different varieties of grasses and some plants

33. Rabbits can't vomit, puke or throw up, so it's highly advised they don't eat anything harmful to them.
