He gained notoriety in 2015 when he amassed an undefeated 319 and claimed 13 wickets for 99 runs in a Giles Shield match, setting an all-around record in Indian school cricket. This helped him get into the Mumbai under-16 team and then the Indian cricket team's under-19 squad.

Yashasvi's dominance at the Under-19 Asia Cup in 2018 was evident as he finished as the tournament's top player and run scorer. In 2019, he demonstrated his sustained skill and made a major contribution to India's triumph in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Yashasvi became a rising star in Indian cricket because of his dependability and capacity to perform well under duress.

After making the switch to the senior team, Yashasvi debuted for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy in the 2018–19 season and in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in September 2019 as a member of the List A. Against the Mumbai Indians in April 2023, he made history with his explosive batting abilities by recording the second-fastest half-century in the franchise's history and his first T20 century.

With an incredible 625 runs in 14 games, Yashasvi concluded the 2023 Indian Premier League season as Rajasthan's leading run scorer. He was added to the Indian Test squad for the June 2023 series against the West Indies after the national selectors took note of his exceptional accomplishments.
