Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” Especially in times like now with the global pandemic, police brutality and civilian hate crimes based on race, sex, sexual orientation and identification. It is a dark and scary time especially when media can be twisted to give viewers the wrong messages, but I have found that - there are online creators and artists that make multitudes of media that help brighten our days with motivating messages that spread love when the world needs it the most and here are a few examples.

I came across this video in 2016 because of a tragedy that happened at the time and it comes from an organization/group called “Broadway for Orlando” and they started because of the hate-based killing at a gay club in Orlando called. On a Sunday evening a man gunned down 49 people in a club called Pulse and it was deemed the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

In honor of the victims - Broadway for Orlando was formed thanks to Broadway’s biggest names such as Whoopi Goldberg, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Kelli O’Hara and a whole lot more. They gathered one morning at a recording studio and covered Dionne Warwick’s ‘What the World Needs Now Is Love’ and the proceeds from the song is being donated to benefit the LGBT Center of Central Florida. It is so uplifting to see a community/family of people coming together to stand with Orlando and for the LGBTQ+ community and their families.

Create Change is only social media account that I have notifications for all of their IG stories, posts and IG TV and that is because they are amazing. As a fan of the CW show Supergirl, I saw that the Actress who plays Alex Danvers; Chyler leigh and her husband Nathan West (Bring it On and Not Another Teen Movie) work with Graphic phenomenon Angelo Lagdameo, Chief of Partnerships Debbie Roth, and Submissions Manager Cindy Woodford to provide a safe-space for community discussions, support artist-activist intent on social change, and highlight non-profits and cultural movements that helps with the reformation that our world needs today.

On Instagram they have a question of the day on their IG asking followers to share what motivated them today or what happened that impacted them in a positive way and Create Change responds and shares almost everyone’s response and it is empowering to see other people’s answers along with messages from the CEOs. Recently they have started the #Here4you campaign on IG to support everyone during this pandemic and it is touching to see people’s artwork and stories during this time. When there isn’t a pandemic happening Create Change also works with East of Eli to host events to bring people together and promote change and positive vibes throughout the world.

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s workers! Folks I can not explain how much this picture has brought a smile to my face. Before these uncertain times we have taken for granted the people who are in plain sight – Doctors, food service workers, truck drivers, the fire department, police, even the warehouse employees and farmers. Now they are doing everything in their power to ensure their service is done safely to reduce the number of germs being spread whilst helping the us, the population stay home and flatten the curve. Superman believes in the core values of Truth, Justice, and The American way and I agree wholeheartedly that these employees out on the frontlines are all Supermen and Women in their own fields.
