“Willpower is essential to the accomplishment of anything worthwhile.” – Brian Tracy

Life is demanding, life is stressful, and life is challenging. I think we all know that much. We surely couldn't be criticized to come home, after another busy and energy sapping day at work, just to completely unwind and relax on the couch in front of the television. By the time we get home in the late afternoon, or early evening, we feel exhausted as it is, but then to cook dinner and clean up afterwards, maybe even get the kids organized and ready for bed also, we feel more than justified to having a couple of hours to ourselves, just to do something more leisurely and enjoyable. There are other options for us, but we tend to turn away from them because they require energy and effort. For example, we could go to the gym perhaps, because we failed to exercise again today, and we know that exercise is vital to our health, but we feel tired as it is, and not to mention, it's too cold to even so much as step outside just to even get to our car. We could perhaps hop on the internet and look at better working options, such as researching about business management, or finding a better job for ourselves, because we immensely hate the job that we are currently at, but it's more enjoyable staying on the couch to scroll through Facebook, after all. Maybe we could even apply ourselves to the actions that are working towards achieving our goals, and the life we desire, for those couple of hours, but it's more relaxing and enjoyable to just stay on the couch and watch our favorite television shows.

The obvious choice for any spare time, or for when there are no scheduled and necessary tasks to complete, should always be reserved for leisure and relaxation, right? If you don't want to succeed, prosper, find happiness, or accomplish your goals in life, then the answer is indeed "yes". Relax, put your feet up, and take it easy, but if you proceed in doing so, then don't start whinging and complaining about why you are always battling financially, about why your life is miserable and unsatisfying, or about why you never get what you desire in life. You would only have yourself to blame. Temptation is humankind's greatness weakness. Whether it be that gorgeous guy or girl that entices you to have sexual relations with them, even though you already have a partner, or that delicious block of chocolate on the shop shelf that's basically screaming at you to buy it, because it's discounted at half price, or that plead from your friends to hit the town and go out drinking with them, even though you are struggling with funds as it is, or that good game of footy that's on television that you choose over having to mow the lawns, even though the grass now resembles a forest, or whatever it may be, most people will always take the most attractive and enjoyable option, even though they know they shouldn't. Unfortunately, most of us fail miserably, when it comes to willpower. What's even more unfortunate is the fact that this lack of willpower always comes back to bite us, in some form or another. The more we give into temptation, the more it becomes habit. If we come home each day after work to relax and watch television, that becomes routine to us.

Now it's all well and good to spend some time to relax and unwind, but at what expense? We always complain about how there aren't enough hours in the day, but it's utter crap! There are enough hours in the day, but we are either not using them effectively, or we are prioritizing the wrong activities, proven by those who have already achieved success for themselves, past or present. Maybe we need to pause for a moment and actually consider what we truly want in life, what we want to achieve. I don't know about you, but the three most important aspects of life to me are my health, my happiness, and my goals. Family is indeed important to me, don't get me wrong, but I can't be the best Dad, the best husband, the best friend, the best brother, the best cousin, or the best person at all, if I am unhappy, unfulfilled, or ill. This should be the same for all of us, with the same yearn to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. Health, happiness, and goals, these should always take first preference on our schedule each day. A minimum of 30 minutes intense physical exercise, a minimum of 7 hours sleep, eating healthy foods and maintaining a balanced diet, working on the actions that are progressing towards my goals, relishing in some quality time with my family, and a commitment to 8 hours of hard work, doing something I am genuinely passionate about, these all should be on your daily to do list, as they are on mine. Make every moment count! If you want to enjoy the rewards of happiness, success, and prosperity, then you have to make sacrifices. You need to continually draw on your willpower time and time again, to the point you do resist the temptation of laziness, leisure, and poor health choices, and it becomes routine. It's not about giving up these things all the time, every time, because we should reward ourselves regularly, but instead, be doing them more sporadically. How much control do you really have over your mindset? How strong are you mentally to overcome temptation, and remain focused on what you truly want to achieve in life? Get yourself committed to the actions that are working towards achieving your goals, and a future blessed with happiness, good health, and prosperity, and stay committed! Your willpower is the perfect barometer to measure exactly how much you truly desire to achieve something in life. As today's quote states, "willpower is essential to the accomplishment of anything worthwhile", remember that!
