The Little Prince Philosophy

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."

Are we living the right way? Do we value what is important? Or are we just counting? Are we still humans? Or are we turning into mushrooms?

What do we really have control over in this life? Sometimes I ask myself this question and I come to the conclusion about very few things. Life is really fragile, it is the flame of a candle as Shakespeare would say. Besides being fragile is fast, passes extremely fast and, simultaneously, in a world of extreme fluidity, the feeling I have is that life passes without I can actually notice everything that happens around me.

We have to do a thousand and one things in a day when we can not do five with quality. Full of obligations and without time for anything, time passes and the flame that keeps us alive becomes weaker. This time does not come back and to be worse, it does not stay in the memory, because we do not spend it on what should actually be spent.

The obligation to succeed in life does not allow us to stop, even if we do not know where we are going. This way of behaving intensifies with a life in a capitalist society, which the obligation to succeed in life is about making money. What worries me is how we are already adapted to live this way, without questioning if this is the best way to live, because as I said, life is brief and because it is brief, it must be used in what really matters. One day we wake up, the years have passed by and we miss the opportunity to leave something good in this world, to hug and win a smile. That is, to be important to someone and to make someone important.

We must produce, we must run, we must "have" things to show as if objects define people, but even if they define, they are very superficial definitions. In this incessant search for countless things, there are people in places where they do not want to be, in jobs that do not bring them any happiness, in empty relationships, and after all, they sell us the idea that this is a happy life.

We accept it, out of fear, laziness or insecurity, to live a life that truly lives up to our existence and to what we are. We believe that life, in this way, is taken seriously, that we are doing "serious things." How foolish the wisdom adults carry. Little do they know that their lives are lived like the others, without differences, without essence, with nothing that can make them important.

So many things that pass through us throughout life, so many things that come and go, so many that we do not remember, so many that do not remember us. We could have stayed longer with what makes the heart soft and collected smiles to strengthen the soul.

But we do not have time for these things. In the world of adults, there is only time for serious things, to work, to the rational. So over time, we forget who we are and become machines or whatever. Not everything can be counted, and so there are things that are only felt. Although, we have been too busy to stop feeling. And we are proud of that because we are "serious" men.

"I know a planet where there's a red guy, almost purple. He never smelled a flower. Never looked at a star. He never loved anyone. He has never done anything but sums. And the whole day repeats like you: 'I'm a serious man! I'm a serious man!' And that makes him swell with pride. But he is not a man; It's a mushroom!"

How the wisdom of the little prince is different from ours. Blind of our reason, we are swollen with pride of a life that we separate from others and from ourselves. We believe that happiness is in grandiosity or quantity. We keep stuff that, after all, just leaves us empty. We try to grow thousands of people, but we do not have time to care for them, so we are not reaping anything.

Shakespeare said that life is the flame of a candle; Quintana that life is brief; Niemeyer that life is a breath. I tell you that life is only worthwhile, when with little things you get a smile. I think the life of contemporary man does not suit what I think, but great people are very weird and this was not me who said, but a little wise man:

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart."
