The Adventure Of A Lifetime
Until Death Do We Live
Life's One Certainty — And Why It Should Set You Free
- Do everything right
- Hit all the typical milestones
- Avoid making major mistakes
- Reach a ripe old age in decent health
“It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.” — Marcus Aurelius
Life has one truth: Death comes for us all.
Sounds morbid right? Thankfully, it's true. Without death, life would have no urgency, no flavour, no point.
It’s only because our time on earth is limited that we feel driven to make it count.
The Illusion of the 'Right Way' to Live
Many of us grow up believing there’s a correct path to follow:
- Then, quietly pass on.
We just follow the guaranteed path: No risks so no major mistakes. We omit one part, the part that provides hope. The reward.
No risk, no mistakes, and no reward.
- You accept that failure might happen—but you also believe in your ability to recover. That belief becomes your strength.
- Life throws curveballs. Embracing the unknown teaches you to shift, flex, and forge ahead, even when the path disappears.
- Bravery isn’t being fearless. It’s acting in the presence of fear. When you choose to explore rather than hide, you let hope—not fear—lead the way.
However, that in and of itself is the biggest mistake in life.
I thought this was the best path for the longest time. Until I started failing taking life's 'safe bets', did I realize that there is no safe bet in life.
The only thing assured with the 'safe bets' in life, is the regrets you end up dying with All because you were too scared to take a serious gamble on yourself, and face uncertainty.
The Risk of Playing It Safe
If we spend our lives trying not to die, we risk never truly living... And I would even go so far as to call this risk, a certainty.
We play it safe. We avoid discomfort. We tiptoe toward the grave, proud of avoiding failure but never tasting real freedom.
Yes, planning for the future has its place. We all need a compass. But if your eyes are always on the horizon, you'll miss the ground beneath your feet.
To live in the present, follow your nerves. Lean into what scares you. That’s where growth lives. That’s where life happens.
The Key to Living: Embrace the Unknown
The unknown is uncomfortable. It’s unpredictable. But it’s also alive. In the unknown, you don’t have the luxury of living in your head. You have to be present. You have to respond. You have to adapt to the unfamiliar circumstances.
When you embrace the unknown, you prove to yourself three things:
1. You Trust Yourself
2. You Can Adapt
3. You Are Brave
The Final Takeaway
Death is coming for all of us. Don’t let that paralyze you. Let it set you free from the shackles of fear —And if you're afraid, do it afraid. That is bravery.
Bravery isn't about recklessness. It's about conscious risk. It's about living with intention, knowing the clock is ticking, and choosing to do something meaningful with your time.
So take the trip. Start the project. Say what you need to say.
Stop waiting for the 'perfect' time. This is your life.
Live it.
Your Turn:
What’s one 'unknown' you’ve been avoiding? What small risk can you take today that nudges you out of your comfort zone?
