A Grand Trek with Many Small Wins
There is no doubt that this experience left an imprint on my mind—forever. But let’s skip back a bit. Not to yesterday, nor even the day before it. This trip was months in the making and took place many, many years ago. My mother was the ultimate adventurer and dreamer, making it all happen on two dimes and a nickle. No, she wasn’t cheap. And no, she wasn’t raised in poverty. You see, I am a product of the sixties and for Mom, she was experiencing divorce at a time when it was still looked down upon. A time when women didn’t get seen unless they were on the arm of a man and dressed to the hilt. Divorce was that sad little dirty word that meant failure. But this was also a time when the social forays were changing. Women were just starting to stand up for themselves. She had a choice. Stay in this marriage or freedom.

In the Red
It started as a lovely day. I woke up on a weekend that felt like it would never end (thank you, Easter), did a little Duolingo and read over some of my emails. Nothing seemed too important, so I headed over to look over some of that media that they call social. There were messages on Instagram and Facebook (again, nothing too special), and then I went over to feel the heat from Reddit.

Your Supportive Comment Is My Small Win
I know that I am virtually invisible to the judges and moderators, but they are not the ones who give me a reason to write and create. They provide me with an excellent platform to share my creations, but that is where it stops.

The Hidden Side Hustle That Made Cathlin Financially Free
For most people who passed Cathlin on the street, she looked like someone living an ordinary life. She was 32, worked a standard office job, and lived in a modest apartment on the third floor of an aging building. Every weekday morning she woke up at 6:30, made a cup of cheap instant coffee, and rushed out the door to catch the crowded bus to work.

Patiently Growing
The sun was shining as Paige worked in the dirt, remembering how well her mother’s garden used to grow. She planted the seeds with dirty gloves, burying them out of sight. Growing a garden was hard work, and for now, all she could see was dirt. Only time would show if anything would sprout. The soil was full of potential and free from distractions. People have relied on gardens like this for centuries. Paige was giving it a try herself. She kept digging, dropping seeds into the earth, and then waited. The soil was moist and ready for spring. Each bit of dirt in her small garden was refreshed. The plots stretched out like a farmer’s field, each one holding its own seeds. It was a slow, beautiful process. When she finished planting the last tomato seeds, the first stage was done. The dirt was disturbed, but now everything was ready to grow. She could almost taste the tomatoes already.

ℍ𝕠𝕨 𝕋𝕠 𝕊𝕥𝕚𝕥𝕔𝕙 𝕊𝕜𝕚𝕟 𝕋𝕠 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕊𝕠𝕦𝕝
The world is not a sequence of events... For me, it is a cathedral made of glass and vibrating tuning forks, where every sound is a hammer blow and every light is a needle. My mind does not inhabit a body so much as it haunts a sprawling, unlit estate where the floorboards have turned to teeth and the wallpaper is printed with the static of a thousand unsaid words.
