Narendra Kumar DubeyPublished 3 months ago in MotivationMastering Self-Discipline
In the intricate tapestry of human achievement, discipline emerges as the unyielding thread that weaves success and personal growth. It's a silent force that constitutes a staggering 90% of the journey, yet it's a facet often overlooked in the conventional educational milieu. As we traverse the corridors of learning, the art of self-discipline remains elusive, prompting a quest for wisdom beyond textbooks. Drawing inspiration from the profound insights found in "Discipline is Destiny: The Power of Self-Control" by Ryan Holiday, we unravel seven stoic lessons that illuminate the path to strong self-discipline and emotional control.

The Tithe
The Tithe The church has asked for your ten percent. There are the year end accounts to reconcile and requests on what to give in upcoming events, chances to volunteer to help the cause. The pessimist in me recounts the times in which I said I would give, even if only to myself, and came up short or lacking, missing a deadline or wanting another edit to the timeline so I could make room for the unrequited time. My ledger of lost opportunity looms above me like a ghost visiting my bedroom on Christmas Eve.

I joined Vocal in May 2022, and didn’t write a single thing for the entire year. I saw it advertised, and had extra money that month, so I decided ‘sure, why not?’ and paid for the year subscription. I saw emails come through every once in a while, for the challenges, and ‘What’s on Vocal?,’ but I never bothered to read them or have a go.

My writing aspirations on Vocal for this year is to increase my usage of the platform, not just completing the challenges but also reading and commenting on other creators’ stories. This past year I have not completed many challenges, or I have done a draft but not submitted the story within the time allowed for that challenge, time management is something I need to work on this year. It can be difficult to manage my own time as I work as a home carer and do shift work and can be working all day and I also have my little girl to look after as well.

To take courage and leaps into the unknown is not for a control freak and not for the perfectionist. The unknown is beauty in the eye of the beholder and if you behold with a telescopic eye you may miss the detail awaiting discovery under a microscope. To subtract the ego to make room for the humbleness and allow flaws to be woven into masterpieces.

1. All or Nothing My first Vocal goal would be to challenge myself by submitting a story to every challenge- no matter how much I have come to loathe poem challenges. I find when it comes to poems I clam up. I try to figure out some abstractly written message full of flowery prose, perhaps something that does makes not a bit of sense, but it ends up being more up-front than I originally thought. I figured it would be good to push myself to write more in order to accomplish my ultimate goal of winning a challenge on Vocal.

I suppose the logical place to start when considering my aspirations as a creator for the coming year would be simply to “create more.” I haven’t done any writing, drawing, or creating of any sort in some time, with no submissions here in almost a year, no posts to my blog in over a year, and nothing in my sketchbook in at least two. Working full-time certainly occupies a not insignificant portion of my week, to be sure; I’ve also been studying for my master’s degree, working towards multiple IT certifications, and studying Japanese. When I’m not working on one of those tasks, my remaining time is devoted to gaming, or mindlessly handling my phone, switching back-and-forth between a half-dozen apps or scrolling through social media.

January is an interesting time, it marks the beginning of a new year and with that, we all make resolutions for ourselves. Sometimes we complete them, other times we don’t for a variety of reasons.

A lot can happen in one day, let alone in one year. The year 2023 was a very difficult one. It was most certainly a year full of trials, tribulations, lessons and loss. I am a single mother of two. I have two daughters. I became a mother at the age of twenty. I actually ended up walking across the stage at 5 months pregnant with my oldest daughter. I waddled across that stage proudly! Ten years later, I was surprised with my youngest daughter. Nice gap, huh?
