Be You

In a world where you can be anything, be you. Be genuine, be unique, be kind, be different and add value. In a world where people see the best in you and give you everything, you could ever want or maybe not. In a world that isn’t built on prejudice and intolerance or bias of any kind, you can dream about being anyone. You don’t have to live like this, not anymore, but you can change things, make them better, and bring hope to your fallen country. Your heart aches for those who have lost all chance at happiness, but still, you stand up and fight to keep it all afloat.

You must be stronger than what was once thought; if the people need you to do so, then so be it. You are just doing your best, after all.

But the days are getting more and more unbearable, the weight of life's survival pressing down on your shoulders heavier by the day. It becomes harder to breathe, even when you try your hardest not to let it show. No one knows what lies ahead; it might be good or bad. The only certain thing is that it will come sooner rather than later.

You feel like there is no tomorrow. That every day is just another breath taken away from you. There is never an end in sight; each new day always leaves you with something different to deal with. You never know whether today will be any better than yesterday and whether it will even get worse; everything is up in the air.

It takes all your strength to keep going, but there is nothing else you can do. You cannot afford to falter. You can’t allow yourself to take a break and lose everything you hold dear; it would destroy you utterly. Not again, not now.

Every second was spent trying to get up, to get back into the routine. To push through, to continue living. To go on as long as you possibly can.

The sun is high in the sky, the wind whipping your face with the smell of autumn leaves drifting around you. You can’t seem to keep yourself awake, barely able to focus on one of the tasks they throw at you during training and missions.

You know you should get some sleep before it gets dark, but your mind won’t shut off. With all the thoughts whirling around inside your head, you wish you were somewhere else. Anything but here, alone, tired and unable to stop thinking about how much this has hurt everyone. How much it still hurts.

Even though you tried to hide it, you still cry sometimes. Sometimes, you just sit in the dark with your eyes closed, crying silently into whatever pillow you happened to grab at the moment. You can’t control how you’re feeling, or why you’re upset. There is no point in trying to pretend otherwise; nothing works anymore. Nothing feels right. Not even this new beginning you had hoped for when you got your hands on some free time.

All you can do is accept that nothing has changed. And yet, somehow, you find it hard to believe. Every person who has lost someone close to them seems to struggle less than you did. If they truly felt what you felt, then they wouldn’t bother with this farce. They would just pick themselves up and move forward.

But you don’t think they feel like that.No matter how much you hate it, no matter how much your chest feels like it's tearing apart, you push yourself onward. Even when your mind screams at you to rest. You have to. You have to. Just a little while longer. One more battle, one more mission, and you can finally stop fighting.

At least until you reach your goals. Until you find peace and happiness for the first time in years. Maybe even forever.

That is if you can keep moving forward. Keep surviving.
