TO BEGIN WITH, LET’S BRUSH OFF A TINY PART OF MULTICULTURALISM… PRETTY BIG WORD HUH? MULTICULTURALISM IS HOW A SOCIETY DEALS WITH CULTURAL DIVERSITY BOTH AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL AND THE COMMUNITY LEVEL. EVEN IN SOME EXTREMELY WELL-DEVELOPED COUNTRIES LIKE SOUTH KOREA, PEOPLE ARE TREATED TERRIBLY DUE TO THEIR DESTINED IDENTITIES. WHAT exactly DID THE VICTIMS DO WRONG? THE PEOPLE IN SOUTH KOREA, FOR EXAMPLE, MAKE LOW-ADVANTAGED AND POOR PEOPLE FEEL HORRIBLE! AND BY ‘LOW ADVANTAGED AND POOR’ I MEAN 59.7 PERCENT, WHICH IS MORE THAN HALF THE POPULATION! WELL, YOU CAN SAY THAT PEOPLE GOT FED UP, BECAUSE ONE DAY, BOOM! 7 MILLION PEOPLE, FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD, MIGRATED TO… YOU GUESSED IT AUSTRALIA! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? THESE SHOCKING STATISTICS ARE just ASTONISHING.

ON THE OTHER HAND, WE PROUD AUSTRALIANS ARE EXTREMELY PRIVILEGED AS THIS WONDERFUL COUNTRY ACCEPTS THE DIVERSITY OF CULTURES AND IDENTITIES. WAIT, BUT DON’T YOU THINK THOSE OTHER PEOPLE OUT THERE DESERVE A CALM AND PROPER LIFE? DON’T YOU THINK THEY SHOULD GET A PLACE IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY?

OKAY, SO THAT WAS MULTICULTURALISM, NOW LETS PUSH ALL THOSE INFO AND

MEET THE GAME CHANGER… IDENTITY! IDENTITY AFFECTS A PERSON’S LIFE AND HOW THEY ARE TREATED. THAT’S 2 MAJOR POINTS! I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS WRONG! WHILE YOUR IDENTITY MAINLY DEPENDS ON YOUR NAME, PLACE OF BIRTH, RELIGION, GENDER, AND SO ON… IT MUST BE VIEWED UPON AS YOUR PERSONALITY, QUALITY, APPEARANCE, AND THE EXPRESSIONS THAT CHARACTERIZE YOU. MY STAY IN MALAYSIA EXPLAINED THIS TO ME BECAUSE I FACED A LITTLE RACISM AND LOW TREATMENT. CAN YOU BELIEVE PEOPLE IN MALLS TEND TO LOOK AWKWARDLY AT ME AND MY FAMILY WHEN WE CONVERSE IN OUR MOTHER TONGUE? HOW RUDE!

HOWEVER, IF PEOPLE LOOKED UPON IDENTITY AS THEIR PERSONALITY, A LOT OF PEOPLE INCLUDING MYSELF WOULD BENEFIT A GREAT DEAL. IT WOULD CHANGE THE WORLD

LASTLY, I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOUR IDENTITY IS WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE. IT’S WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT. BUT STILL, THAT SHOULD NEVER MEAN THAT UNIQUENESS HAS TO BE TREATED BADLY!

TO CONCLUDE THIS WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO TYPE UP ABOUT A WORLDWIDE FACED ISSUE, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT IF YOU HAVE EVER TREATED A PERSON UNJUSTLY JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR IDENTITY, THEN IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO MAKE UP FOR THOSE ACTS.

FINALLY... BE PROUD, AND DON’T HIDE BEHIND THE CROWD, BECAUSE THIS IS YOUR IDENTITY!
