What’s your name, and where are you from? My name is Jalen (a.k.a. Jay Wolf), and I am from Anderson, Indiana, where I was born and raised. I am the second oldest of 5 and oldest boy in my family. Why do you love what you do? Well, I am a hip-hop artist. I have been writing music for years and just recently started putting it out. I love making music because it’s a way for me to express myself and how I feel. It gives me an outlet from everyday life and allows me to be myself when life tries to get in the way. What makes you different? My style is very outspoken. I write using my feelings and also write about what goes on in my everyday life. In my song Boss Moves, I use different things, from call of duty to football. I used to play football in school, and one of my favorite games is Call of Duty. I’ve heard from people that my style is not what they are used to hearing. It’s different, but they love the difference in it. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself making music full-time and being able to focus more on growing my business. I also see myself touring for the first time. I see myself hearing my music on the radio for the first time. I see so much happening in 5 years, and I’m prepared for all of it. What do you want to accomplish in life? I want to make a difference when it comes to rap. A lot of people think rap is all about guns and violence, but not all of us artists think like that. I want to show people that you can do what you want in life despite the stereotypes that are placed upon you. We all go through things, but that doesn’t mean those things define who we are. We define who we are. What do you bring to your industry? I have a style that people can relate to. As a kid, I didn’t grow up in the streets, but I grew up around the environment of the streets. So I have been through something that I feel like could help someone out one day. I think some of my music can reach people in a way that they can relate to. I also have music out that I make just for people to dance to and feel good with. So I bring a wave of different emotions to my music. If you’re in a more deep-thinking mindset, I have that. If you want to dance and move, I have that. Every song I put out has a different style or vibe for each person who listens to the songs I record. What do you want to be remembered for? I want to be remembered for what I bring to the music industry. I want to be remembered for what I can contribute to my community and my culture. I want my kids and family to be proud of the man I’m becoming and the man I am. I want to show people that I am not that same kid who sat in the back of the class and was quiet. I am now that guy who has found his way in the world and won’t stop until he has achieved his goals and then made more goals to achieve. I will make sure that when people speak of me, it will be about how I have grown. I will make a difference.
