Make Your Disadvantages Your Advantages

Choose something different.

We all have disadvantages. They can be anything from upbringing to a dead end job. Anything that may be a disadvantage can be turned to an advantage. The key to turning things around is to use your situation. What I mean by that is learn everyday to see how you ended up in your current position.

Whatever you go through has lessons for you to learn. You have the opportunity to grow from your experiences. Take advantage of that. Use that as fuel to your fire. Some of the legends of our time have used a perceived disadvantage to propel them to heights they never thought possible. When Jay-Z could not get a record deal he most likely didn't dream of the career he has now amassed. Michael Jordan didn't envision the heights he would reach when he didn't make varsity as a freshman. They also didn't think oh well I might as well just quit now. They fought and used the perceived disadvantages to push themselves to greatness. We all are blessed with the same opportunities. Anything that happens in your life is a chance to to grow. You are either progressing or regressing. We never stay the same. When bad things happen we are all presented with a choice in how we react. Every self-made millionaire or billionaire has come across moments in their journey where they could have stopped pursuing the dream. Yet, they chose to keep going. In that choice the disadvantage was turned to an advantage. You can learn more from adversity then prosperity. The struggle will make you stronger if you let it.

Every day, we see stories of small town kids making it in Hollywood or the sports world. These people have a commonality; they see they have a talent and their life experience gives them a unique advantage that no one else on earth has. Our outlook and perspective is either a disadvantage or an advantage. That depends on you.

What are your memories from childhood and high school? Write them down. Now see how many you would describe as good, bad, and indifferent. If you have more good then bad, great. Continue to see the good things in your life. If you see more bad than good, focus in on the good things. What we think about is a good glimpse into who we are. If you see more indifference, then focus on the good. See the trend. Focusing on the good things in your life will make your life better. We all have issues and have had some sort of adversity in our lives. At some point in your life you have gone through something you thought you couldn't handle. It made you stronger mentally, that is what life does if you allow it. It will help you grow into the person you want to be. Go through your adversity, attack it! See the good in the situations you are faced with. See the good in people. Enjoy life and be the good you want to see.

If we are lucky, we all have dreams or just things we want to do. Even the most optimistic person will at times doubt themselves. Our mind is powerful and it can fool us into believing something that is possible is impossible. Many things contribute to why our minds do that. Life experience, fear, insecurity can and will make doing even harder.

Your will to succeed must be stronger then your fear of failing. Start small and continue to grow. Spend time on what you want everyday. The drive to succeed when you come from nothing has to be obsessive. Believe in yourself and find motivational tools to push you even harder. The haters, your supporters, what you have been through, whatever it is, use it.

Stop waiting for a reason not to start it.

"I can’t."

"I have no money."

"I have no time."

Your dreams are a reality if you start working towards them today. Right now.

Go and DO IT.
