Life is a Highway

We only get one life. As people, we all have a different journey, with different experiences.

No one goes down the same path, makes the same decisions, makes the same mistakes, or even plans out what their life will be like. Everyone has a past as well.

In this walk of life, there are many emotions and life situations that we will go through. We must decide what is best for us. We often allow people to get inside our heads and tell us what they think we should do instead of deciding for ourselves.

That is where we make our biggest mistake. Our life is just that, ours. We must decide what is best for us, instead of trying to please other people. Some people feel that they must please others and will do anything and everything to do that. Its more like a sense of belonging type deal. A mindset. Some of us may do drugs and drink alcohol just to fit in with the in crowd. But is it worth it? That’s a personal question that only you or I can answer for ourselves.

In life, we all travel a different path. I can’t live your life and you can’t live mine. But people do try that though. If that were the case, a lot of people’s lives may have come out completely different. But we all have a story. We are all people, no matter what people think of us. My opinion of you shouldn’t matter and your opinion of me shouldn’t matter.

But unfortunately, people allow other’s opinions to get in their heads. But that’s not what life is about. Life is meant for living. You only live once so live it to the fullest and to the best of your ability. Every day is not going to be sunshine and roses. You control your happiness level. No one else does.

Don’t let people dictate your sense of happiness. And you know what else? Your life is not a dollar sign so don’t allow people to put a price on you. We’re not clothes or items so we don’t have a price. Life does have a value. Every birthday you celebrate is that value. Remember that.

Don’t let the troubles of this world make you feel like you don’t matter because you do. Don’t let people tell you that you don’t matter because you do. Depression is something that rears its ugly head and no one wants to experience it but from time to time, we all go through it.

What more can I say about life? We have one. Make the best of it. However you live it is your business. But live it for yourself, not for other people. If you want to sleep all day, sleep all day. If you work, go to work, come home, rest, get up and do it again.

However you travel this path of life, travel it. After all, it is your personal journey. I wrote 2 poems that will end this story for me. One is called Life is a Journey. The other one is called A Story about Life. They basically mirror each other. The poems conclude my story..

Life's Journey

Like elevators, life's journey goes up and down

But you control this life, just like you drive a car around town

You get kicked when you are down, words are spoken against you

Some people use the phrase: What would Jesus do?

You think to yourself; how should I react?

Do I get mad? Walk away? Do I fight back?

You have options but the decision is yours

Think of the decisions as different doors

Door number 1, number 2, and number 3

What are the different consequences for me?

If I pick the wrong one, what happens next

If I chose what I thought was right, I consider it my best

Decision after decision, something we have to make

But life is a journey we all have to take

A Story about Life

Things happen sometimes and we do not understand why

Tempers arise because we hurt so much inside

Why do these things seem to happen to me?

Lord knows I wish the answer to that question was so easy

But since it is not, we continue to wrack our brains

To attempt to figure it out, so it will not happen again

The temper has died down, sometimes we shed tears

Some of us have felt pain inside but have not cried in years

Life is funny that way, you know?

But man, oh man it is true that you reap what you sow

Betrayal is real, happens to us all

But let the Lord fight your battles, hold your head up and stand tall

Everything in life happens for a reason

But things always change, that is why we have 4 seasons.
