When you start writing and you like it, you’d want to write everyday. However, finding a topic to write on everyday is a challenge. Thoughts build up in our brains non-stop but finding the right topic or doing it without lowering the tone is what we actually want and need.

Here, with today’s post, I’d like to share my thoughts and tactics on how to find what to write everyday.

Use Your Resources!

We are not always aware but we are surrounded by stories and anectodes everyday, every minute. Some obvious, some not. Some significant and worth telling, some not. However, we do not always see those and miss the most. When you keep writing in your mind and focus on it, this will help you notice such stories around you.

For any idea you’d like to find, you need to use your resources. And to be able to do that you need to know and understand what your resources are.

Reading / Books / Internet:

For me, one of the best ways to find ideas is reading. Whether you read a book, research internet or just read things on social media, you will learn and be informed of many things. As I said above, some will be significant some will not. But in either case, your mind will fill with many writing ideas.

Reading on internet or social media also ables you to see what’s hot and helps you to write articles that are more likely to go viral. Whereas I also like reading books on economy or history which can be useful resource for different ideas.

Family / Friends / People:

We interact with many people during a day and short or long, we share things with them. Anything a person says can be a great title for your next article.

Usually it is great and also easy to write about your family, family members or any event that is related with your family in somehow. Even though this can be a little more personal for you to write on internet, you can always use an alias and do not have to write under your name.

In terms of friends, they are a great resource as well. Any conversation with them or any story they share with you can be an idea for your blog post. This enables you to extend your resources. Of course, it is always a good idea to ask for permission from your friend before writing about it.

Even if you do not personally know a person, he/she can provide you with a perfect idea to write about. Think about your commute to work, bus or subway. You see or talk with a lot of people. There are almost always some interesting ones around. Here goes one topic that you may come up with while on public transport: “Why you shouldn’t talk very loudly on the phone in public.”

Your life is usually the best and limitless resource to find things to write about.

Professional Life / Work:

Usually what we know most is our profession and it creates the most part of our circle of competence. It is always easy to write or talk about a topic which is within your circle of competence. As it is easier to write, it is also easier to find topics from this circle.

So there are many things you can find to write about your profession or work. Any topic that you are working on or interested in. Or even an event that happened at your work.

Hobbies:

Besides from your professional life, your hobbies are a valuable resource for writing. One of them is writing any way, isn’t it? Usually the most fun topic to write about is your hobbies as you do them because you like them and you’d also like to talk and write about them. I think you’d agree that your hobbies could provide you with many articles.

Keep Going and Write Often:

You may find it diffucult to find new things to write about. However, your own life is a limitless resource for ideas. So keep going and open your mind and be ready for new ideas any time. See the stories around you.

When you do that and keep writing within your life and write often enough, you will see that the ideas comes to you by itself.
