A boss tends to push employees to help him achieve his goals on time. Their only motive is to fulfill responsibilities and their only concerned is to measure the outcome.

A leader, on the other hand, is just the opposite of what a boss is. Leaders are seen leading the team, motivating them to give their best and inspiring them by setting positive examples. They are always kind, caring and compassionate towards their employees.

Leadership is one of the most essential qualities of a leader who want to make his/her business a success. Many people believe that leadership is a quality that people are born with. However, the truth is that you can easily cultivate leadership skills if you try.

If you want to be a good leader, here are a few skills that you need to develop. So let's check them out.

1. Stop Being Overly Critical

Have you ever come across people with an overly critical attitude? If yes, think about how they made you feel with their comments. You can make others feel the same way if you too behave in the same way.

Although constructive criticism is needed for improvements, being too critical can make people uncomfortable and awkward. It can also demotivate them, make them lose their confidence, and create negativity in the workplace.

By being less critical of your employees or by finding a constructive way to express your criticism you can avoid such a situation.

So how do you do that? It’s actually very simple. Instead of starting with the negatives, start by talking about the positives in them and their work. Then slowly tell them about what you didn't like and how it can be improved.

In doing so, make sure never to criticize them in public. Always express your criticisms privately. This will make the other person feel more comfortable and you won’t offend them either.

2. Appreciate More Often

It’s often easier to criticize others than to appreciate. But appreciating others can make a huge difference when it comes to creating a more positive attitude at work.

By appreciating others for their efforts and hardwork you can not only come across as a positive and nice person but can also make them feel motivated and valued for what they do.

So try to find the good in others and express your appreciation more often. Sometimes you might notice something good in others but may not care enough to let the person know about it.

Instead of doing that, try to voice your feelings publicly. You can even go the extra mile and shout out to them on social media.

It's a great way to make others feel good, boost engagement, and promote positivity in the workspace.

3. Be a Team Player

Another brilliant way of becoming a nicer person at work is to be a team player. You will often have people with different expertise in your team. But sometimes a person with a different expertise, might have to work on a task that requires a completely different set of skills.

At such times be ready to offer help whenever possible to make their job easier. Sometimes you might have to alter plans and make compromises to meet your goals. Try to be a team player and be ready to help the team however possible.

Such small acts promote positivity, reduce conflict, decrease misunderstandings and create a more positive and happy environment to work from.

Working in a positive workplace is extremely important for the well-being of your mental and physical health. A lot of the negativity and toxicity can be removed by being a better leader to your employees.

By practising the above skills you can not only be a good leader but can also improve your employee experience and make them advocates of your company. This will help you attract the right talent, build a positive brand image and make a meaningful difference in your business growth.
