How a Newspaper Headline Can Change your Life

Motivation Challenge

I'm gunna be honest. I know I haven't been giving 110% to my goals and I need to hold myself accountable. With work and all the other obstacles life throws my way on a daily basis it can be hard to stay on track continue to be motivated. Everyday seems like another chance for a new beginning but as the day unfolds, the hopes quickly go down the drain. I am sure I am not the only one who struggles with this.

I needed a way to stay motivated consistently to the point that I wouldn't give up on a day if a simple obstacle got in the way. It was all too common to fall a little behind on my daily tasks and then simply push them all off until tomorrow, only to fall off track again. Motivation is not an on and off switch - it's a light that slowly fades as you put less and less effort into your goal, letting it wither away into nonexistence. With motivation being a gradual fade, sometimes you don't even notice how lost you've gotten until it is too late. This is when I decided to research motivation and see what people had learned about staying motivated.

Most of the time it is not enough to write down your goals and create a vision for yourself. It is the followthrough that is important and is the area that most people fail. I know motivation comes from the inside and that motivation cannot be faked, but it has been an absolute game changer for me to change my mindset and follow the "Newspaper Headline" Challenge. This has opened new doors for me as it has put a completely new perspective on what it takes to be successful.

I needed something to keep me in line. I needed to be accountable for my actions. I needed a simple way to keep me on track. The answer was simple. I need to "Live as if I was being followed for a documentary." It was said that if someone were to live their life with this mindset they would be more likely to fall into a routine that would lead to success. In other words, if you were being watched by a camera crew documentary style it might be more likely for you to live a more productive and responsible life.

With this mindset I have been able to hold myself accountable for my daily tasks. I am now motivated to accomplish anything I set my mind on. I am still not perfect at it but I only have to remind myself that someone might be watching me and I get back on track.

Throughout the challenge I aim to live all moments as if my actions were the headline in the news paper. This forces me to put my best foot forward each and everyday. Do I want the paper to say "Tom stops one rep short because he was tired" "Tom doesn't put in the work" or would I prefer it said "Tom perseveres and hits new personal best". The answer is simple.

To hold yourself more accountable, find a place to post a quick daily blurb or 15 second video to highlight what you did with the day. Don't sugar coat it, be real with yourself. Did you give it your all? Would the Newspaper article highlighting your day be positive or negative? If it's positive, nice job. If it's negative, what can you do better?

Knowing that at the end of the day you need to recap your failures and successes with an audience puts an additional level of pressure on yourself to make sure you stick on the correct path to success. So why not try it? You have everything to gain and nothing to lose by giving this a shot.

I personally am excited to continue this challenge and am looking forward to sharing this with you all.
