Gratitude is the best gift you can possibly give!

Be thankful!

Our gratitude is best defined by the intentional acts of kindness that we demonstrate toward others. At times of the year when we are celebrating, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, we are more likely to spend time with our families and friends.

These gatherings serve to remind us of both the love we have for our relatives and the craziness that can creep into the family dynamic when we are together. The relationships we have with family and friends, in the end, are what stretch us and force us to reevaluate our choices.

When life gets in the way, it can be difficult to find a way to express gratitude that is not centered on family or celebratory occasions that are no longer present. Failure to recognize the life-altering effects that gratitude can have on your life and the life of the person to whom you are expressing gratitude is a missed opportunity to experience true happiness in your life.

We never know what life will throw at us and how it will surprise us. It is possible to find oneself in a situation where one requires assistance. When you wake up each day knowing that you have nothing to worry about, it should motivate you to take deliberate steps to show kindness to others. Individuals who are experiencing hardship or a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve the less fortunate can benefit from charitable contributions, which are a wonderful way to "do unto others" and demonstrate that you are grateful for your life and concerned about the well-being of others.

If you're not sure what to donate, start by looking in your attic. There are unquestionably treasures to be found in places where you would never expect to find them. If the items have been sitting in your attic for a long time and are still in good condition, you are unlikely to be disappointed with what you find. You can donate your treasures while visiting the children's hospital ward or a senior citizen's center near you. The ability to put smiles on the faces of those in need, and to do unto others as you may require them to do unto you, is a wonderful thing.

Statisticians have determined that poverty and hunger have reached epidemic proportions in many sectors of society. There are a large number of people in your community who do not have access to food in their homes. The demands of work and family life may leave you with little time to consider the plight of others, but what if you turned your lack of free time into an opportunity to volunteer your time and talents to help others in need?

Make a start by offering your time to a food bank, where extra assistance is often required. Remember that you will require assistance in many areas of the facility, including but not limited to office work and warehouse work, food distribution work, and accounting. Many people will benefit from your gratitude for what you have and your willingness to give of your time to help others.

Additionally, encourage a friend. People can easily fall into a funk during the holidays due to factors such as a lack of financial resources and strained family relationships. Encourage the person by offering daily compliments, sharing humorous stories, or doing anything else that will help them focus on something other than their personal issues. Send a friend an unsolicited note in response to their request.

The best gifts are those that are unexpected. There are people in your life who have been a blessing; inspire them to send a letter of thanks, along with words of appreciation, to someone they know who is deserving of love and appreciation.
