Father Stu

Story:

'Father Stu' is a true story and talks about the life of Stuart Long, who led a wayward life during his youth. But when he survives a terrible motorcycle accident, he begins to wonder if his second life is a message from God to help others.

Review:

Father Stu is a powerful and moving film that tells the true story of Stuart Long, a former boxer from Montana who struggled to find purpose in life. Mark Wahlberg gives an outstanding performance as Stu, bringing his character to life through his physical transformation and captivating portrayal. The film delves into the relationship between Stu and his estranged parents and explores the themes of love, faith, and the meaning of existence.

The film begins with Stu's boxing dreams coming to an end, leading him to move to Los Angeles in search of a career in acting. However, he ends up working in a meat shop, where he meets Carmen, a worker at the parish and falls in love. Stu's journey takes a profound turn when he decides to become a priest, despite being an atheist. Tragically, a severe motorcycle accident leaves him with only a year to live, due to inclusion body myositis.

Despite its sad ending, Father Stu is an inspiring film that encourages us to reflect on the purpose of our lives and how we can make a positive impact on others. The film also showcases the talents of Mark Wahlberg, who delivers a raw and authentic performance, and Rosalind Ross, who does not shy away from the harsh realities of life.

While the film may not be the lighthearted entertainment that some viewers may be seeking, it is a thought-provoking and moving film that touches on important themes and encourages us to reflect on our own lives. Whether it is the scene where Stu lights a candle on a birthday cake for his deceased brother or when his father tries to pack him in a wheelchair to make sure he gets to the church on time, Father Stu is a film that will linger with you long after the credits roll.
