Failure is an Option

It is Okay to Failure

By Andre HarrisonPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Failure is frequently regarded as a bad thing to be avoided at all costs. But what if I told you that failure is a choice, and that it might even be a necessary component of success? This may appear contradictory, but it is true: failure can be a strong motivator and teacher, and we should embrace it rather than dread it.

Take, for example, Thomas Edison. Most people know him for creating the light bulb, but few realize that it took him almost 10,000 attempts to get it right. That is correct - 10,000. Consider it for a moment. Most of us would have given up after a few attempts, let alone hundreds or thousands. Despite the seemingly insurmountable difficulties, Edison persisted.

Why did he continue? Because he viewed failure as a chance to learn and progress. He learnt something new about what did not work with each failed attempt. He used that understanding to fine-tune his approach and make little steps toward his ultimate aim. And when he eventually succeeded, he realized it was not by coincidence or luck; it was the result of years of hard labor, experimentation, and determination.

"That is great for Thomas Edison, but I am not a genius inventor," you may be thinking. I do not have the same ability or resources as he does. "How can I put this into practice in my own life?" To learn from Edison's example, you do not have to be a brilliant creator. The ideas of experimentation, perseverance, and resilience may be applied to any aspect of life where success is desired.

Assume you are attempting to launch a new business. You have a great concept for a product or service, but you are not sure if it will be successful. You begin working on it, but after a few months, you encounter a stumbling block. Perhaps you can not find the right suppliers, or your marketing strategy is not performing as well as you would hoped. Whatever the case, you begin to feel discouraged.

Here's where Edison's example comes in handy. Rather than giving up, you take a step back and think, "What can I learn from this failure?" Perhaps you realize you need to conduct more market research in order to better understand your target audience. Perhaps you should change the design of your product to make it more appealing to customers. Whatever the situation may be, you apply what you have learned to improve your approach and try again.

The crucial point is that failure is not the end of the journey. It is just a stumbling block. It is a chance to learn and grow, to fine-tune your approach, and to come closer to your final objective. The most successful individuals in the world are not those who never fail; rather, they are those who persevere in the face of adversity.

So, if you are currently dealing with failure in your career, relationships, or any other area of your life, take heart. Failure does not spell the end of the path. It is just a stumbling block on the way to success. Accept it, learn from it, and keep going. And who knows, you could surprise yourself with what you are capable of.

Finally, failure is an option. It is not to be feared or avoided, but rather to be welcomed and learnt from. Failure, as demonstrated by Thomas Edison, can be a tremendous motivator and instructor, and it is frequently the route to success. Do not give up the next time you experience a setback or an obstacle. Take a deep breath,

success
