“APPLY WITHIN

You once told me

You wanted to find

Yourself in the world -

And I told you to

First apply within,

To discover the world

within you.

You once told me

You wanted to save

The world from all its wars -

And I told you to

First save yourself

From the world,

And all the wars

You put yourself

Through.

APPLY WITHIN by Suzy Kassem”

If you are reading this, for sure, at some point in your life, you got to stress out. Of course, everyone deals with stress in life, the world, and the things of each day of life, something for sure must have stress you out.

But there's a smart way to deal with stress; we call emotional intelligence that you can use at your favor when you feel like burning out in stress, because something didn't work out the way you expected to work, or because someone did stress you out. Well, you must be thinking, I do not have time to take care of this, this is silly, Nah, I am stress, and that's it. But you can work on your stress through things like Yoga, meditation, walking, listening to music, writing, there's something that your brain connects yourself to your heart and make you feel good, something healthy that is good in all of the ways. You do not need to fill yourself with drugs or be numb to have a way to release stress in your life. Your way to release stress should be a healthy and happy way to make you feel alive and in harmony with life.

In a world full of so much stress and a society that demands so much of us to strive, work hard, and be the best in everything. You should be the smarter; you should be the faster, you should be the that, this, blah, blah, blah... so many things and between. Since we were little, we are taught to compete with each other. And in this way, consequently, we have a huge population of people in stress and anxiety because society teaches us that we need to be better than each other to feel good, but this is not right. You cannot say to a fish in the ocean that he is not smart or good enough just because he cannot fly like a bird. The fish has the ability to swim and breathe underwater, To sleep underwater, to live underwater.

People in this world have so much stress going on; to deal with work, family, studies, your owns issues, and so on. That's when emotional intelligence should come in. Because if you don't work on your emotional intelligence, no one will do it for you. We are not built to support everything in our bodies; that's how we were designed. Like human beings, we do feel everything, and it's valid; although you should learn how to control the behaviors and emotions that don't favor you like a good human being, that's when you should learn how to use your emotional intelligence in a way that you don't allow anything that is happening in the outside interferes your interior if it doesn't add good things to your life. It doesn't mean you should be a cold rock in life. It just means that there are better ways to deal with our brain and heart, that affects all of our body.

To work on your emotional intelligence, you should develop five aspects of your life;

according to Daniel Goleman in his book - "Emotional Intelligence - Why It Can Matter More Than IQ"

Self-Awareness – People with high emotional intelligence are usually very self-aware . They understand their emotions, and because of this, they don't let their feelings rule them. They're confident – because they trust their intuition and don't let their emotions get out of control.

Self-Regulation – This is the ability to control emotions and impulses. People who self-regulate typically don't allow themselves to become too angry or jealous, and they don't make impulsive careless decisions. They think before they act.

Motivation – People with a high degree of emotional intelligence are usually motivated. They're willing to defer immediate results for long-term success. They're highly productive, love a challenge, and are very effective in whatever they do.

Empathy – This is perhaps the second-most important element of emotional intelligence. Empathy is the ability to identify with and understand the wants, needs, and viewpoints of those around you. People with empathy are good at recognizing others' feelings, even when those feelings may not be obvious. As a result, empathetic people are usually excellent at managing relationships , listening , and relating to others. They avoid stereotyping and judging too quickly, and they live their lives in a very open, honest way.

Social Skills – It's usually easy to talk to and like people with good social skills, another sign of high emotional intelligence. Those with strong social skills are typically team players. Rather than focus on their own success first, they help others develop and shine.

Did you check? I am pretty sure each person has at least one area that lacks emotional intelligence. This is just a reminder that the way we deal with our emotions affects everything in our life, our decision, our behavior, and consequently, our all life.

I had a great teacher in high school. She was like the sun, bright in positive, but I never will forget something that once she told me," from time to time, you should check how are you feeling. How is this affecting your life? And what can you do to change that and make your emotions work for your good?

Therapy? Yoga? to write? Sleep? Sing, music, gym, swimming, drawing, there are so many healthy ways to deal with your emotions. And of course, you can cry, but try to learn to deal with your emotions in a healthy way. Look around and ask yourself, what's going? Why am I feeling like this? How can I do to release stress?

Be mindful of your emotional intelligence because this will affect you in every aspect of your life.

"If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath."

― Amit Ray, Om Chanting and Meditation

"I promise you nothing is as chaotic as it seems. Nothing is worth diminishing your health. Nothing is worth poisoning yourself into stress, anxiety, and fear."

― Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience

"If you really want to escape the things that harass you, what you're needing is not to be in a different place but to be a different person."

― Lucius Annaeus Seneca, Letters from a Stoic

“Life is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel. HORACE WALPOLE”

― Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence

“Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions.”

― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat Pray Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia
