You Have Won Your Place in the Sun

Instead of moving aside and allowing everyone to move ahead of you in life, it is time for you to claim your place in the sun.

If you have a hobby or an interest in life, try to develop it in your spare time. If you love trains, or collecting curios, or if gardening is your hobby, try making it more than just a hobby. Join a club, do research, build a niche blog, or website related to your hobby or interest. There are always others like you with similar interests, who would love to hear and share information related to the subject. Your fans need your knowledge and expertise, with a large number of them willing to pay for your unique insight into your skill, passion, or hobbies.

  1. Individuality: Provide the media with a short biography about yourself, including your skills and previous experience. Highlight all the special achievements that you have, which set you apart from the crowd. In life, there tends to be too many copies, you need to shine your individuality onto the world.
  2. The Story: Your story should be local or regional in nature. This would interest journalists who report on local and regional news, and you have more of an opportunity of being featured in the news. There is a story hiding within each one of us. We all have a story to tell. But, you need to tell the world your story, because your story matters. No one has had your life experience, and this sets you apart from everyone.
  3. Uniqueness: Your product or service should be unique, and that which would make your company stand out in a world where there are so many similar products and services being offered to us every day.
  4. Database of newspapers and reporters: Keep a list in Excel or Access about all the newspapers and names with contact details of Reporters, so that you have your very own hot-list to email or phone, when you have something newsworthy to report.
  5. Find reporters on social media network sites. Put the name of a Reporter in Google, and add social media networks, and you will get the social media sites to which the reporter usually contributes his or her writings.
  6. Research the works of reporters who are involved in your type of industry. In order to work with a Reporter, it is always advantageous to know the way they think, and if their views match yours to an extent. But, remember, your product or service and you are unique, so all reporters will not fully agree with you.
  7. Comment on Reporter's posts and blog posts: Most reporters have a column or blog on which they express their views and opinions. It is a good idea to visit their blogs or websites, and to express your views on their posts.
  8. Subject Lines: Take time to write interesting Subject lines to your emails, so that the reader will be tempted to open and read the emails. Most readers just skim the headlines of their emails, and read the ones which have more interesting titles.
  9. Emails: Hire a good Copywriter or PR agent to frame effective emails that can hook the reader from the beginning to the end of the email, and tempt them to seize the opportunity of the tempting, once in a lifetime offer at the very end.
  10. Email Signature: An email signature is important, with the relevant information to your website or blog, or even advertising your latest products and services. Reporters like to know the source the emails are coming from, and the background information of the person or company sending them.
  11. Phone Number: Keep a phone contact, so that people can contact you and give you their valuable business. Some people are more comfortable, and want to speak to a human person at the other end of the phone, instead of listening to a mechanical voice recording, or sending an email enquiry. You can make a great number of sales by picking up the phone and phoning your list of prospective and previous clients.

You need to claim your time in the spotlight. It is never too late to make a success of your life. You were born to succeed sometime in your life. That time is now, and you deserve to have your time in the sunshine of your success.
