Chris Morey Dark Regions Press

Dark Regions Press was created in 1985 by Joe Morey. Many years later Joe’s son Chris Morey would start working on Dark Regions Press and would eventually take it over. Since being the legal owner of Dark Regions Press, Chris Morey has managed the business as it paid over half a million dollars to authors and artists, reaching this important milestone in early 2021.

As a small press with humble beginnings, Chris Morey is proud that Dark Regions Press has paid over half a million dollars to authors and artists since he has owned the press. Through all of the ups and downs, it makes him happy to know how much they’ve been able to support the writing and art communities, even as a small business. His dad, Joe, paid many more authors and artists while he ran the press starting from his creation of it in 1985.

As human beings we are imperfect. I have my moments and my emotions like every other person on the planet, but my intentions have always been positive. No one is getting personally rich in the small press, money has never been my motivation. What drives me to continue is the pure joy of working with talented authors and artists on exciting projects. It’s incredibly rewarding to experience a project from signing of the contracts to holding the book in your hands.

The truth is it’s very difficult to make a real profit in the small press. If you enter this industry with the intention of becoming rich, your delusions of grandeur will be quickly shattered. What this means, then, is that usually we are doing it for the love.

When you see us excitedly announce one of our new projects, it’s all for the love of working on creative books. Positive feedback from our customers means the world to us, just as making authors happy when they get to hold their author copies in their hands. It’s a big, challenging and fun ride and we intend on keeping it going.

Dark Regions Press will continue working hard with good intentions and persistence for the writing and art communities. Are we perfect? Of course not, but please know that we mean well and will continue working to improve for the better. If you ever want to hear from me personally, feel free to add me on Facebook.

Thank you for reading, wishing all of you health and safety.

Sincerely,

Chris Morey
