Being Blind

(Both metaphorically and literally)

After reading the title above, you may be wondering what the exact topic I’m fixing to discuss is all about. In all honesty, it doesn’t have much to do with being literally blind at all, as that was just a play on words I thought I’d throw in since I myself am visually impaired. So, if you clicked thinking this was a discourse on the hardships of not having 20/20 vision, you’re sadly mistaken.

What I’m about to speak on is more of the metaphorical side- not knowing what’s going to happen next, or where exactly your figurative feet may take you.

If you’ve gotten this far, I should make it known that this is my first story I’m putting out there for the world to see. Other than required blog essays I had written for high school, that is. (Which, if you’re a fan of old-timey literature and the analysis of, such as The Great Gatsby or The Inferno, I would definitely recommend checking it out, I’ll leave my contact info below for any inquiries) Despite almost dreading having to write those works, more so because they were required and didn’t exactly level with my preferences of writing, I’ve dreamt of being a well-known author since childhood. Nothing would make me happier than being able to make an honest living off of nothing but my mind and what it has to offer. It honestly amazes me at how other people have been able to achieve that in the past, even though at some point I must admit my more cynical side would often credit the system or high statuses for their successes.

However, after becoming intrigued with Vocal and their growing rate of writers who are actually given a chance to make money off their works despite statuses and the like, I decided to give myself a chance as well and see how it goes.

I am most certainly blind on this journey, and I may not reach all the goals I hope for, (as I admit, making good money off of it is definitely one of the bigger aspirations I desire) but being able to put myself and my thoughts out there, giving myself a chance, has already revealed a light in my path to self-fulfillment that I would never take back despite the possible disappointments I may encounter.

Scratch that, the most certain disappointments I will encounter. Again, I realize it’s a bit cynical, but if you’ve lived a life anything like mine you too may come to embrace it as a more realistic view, one that sets your hopes low so that when the unexpected happens, you can be all the more grateful. Even so, with such disappointments, that does not mean there is no room for hope to live. No matter how long you’ve been blindly wandering in the dark, that shimmer of light will always give you something to reach for, even if it’s been beaming from within you the whole time. Sometimes you just have to dig deeper into yourself first in order for the light to spread and to reveal your true path.

Along with all of this, I encourage you all to push aside your self-doubt and concerns that you may not have what it takes, and instead use those to throw yourself into your writing, dreaming of a better tomorrow- for you and those who are given the opportunity to delve into your creative mind with you. After all, as you dig deeper and your light continues to grow and expose the journey ahead of you, it just might provide the smallest bit of sight for someone else.

I know that if I didn’t have the opportunity to read other peoples works, to witness such creaitivity, my path would be much less visible than it is now. These artists have shared their light with me so that I can find my own, and for that I am eternally grateful. That is why I will endlessly encourage you all to do the same, and why I will continue to write in hopes that one day I can share my light with others just as many others have done for me.

That’s all I have the time to write for now, although I do plan on dropping in as often as possible and spilling my thoughts once again whenever I get the chance. Any likes or tips would be greatly appreciated, as it gives me an extra little push to continue doing what I love. I would also like to check out more stories on here, so I will definitely interact with every person that is gracious enough to give me the attention I crave. If you’ve made it this far, thank you! Your mind is truly an impeccable one.
