A Manifesto for the Beautifully Strange Life
Won’t you join me?
I refuse to believe that life is supposed to look a certain way.
Who decided we are supposed to grow up, get serious, get a sensible job, buy sensible clothes, live in a sensible house, say sensible things, and eventually become some polished version of a person who never makes anyone uncomfortable?
Because that sounds boring as hell.
I want the weird life. The complicated life. The creative life.
The life where black lace can be sacred, where boots can feel like armor, where a crystal can sit beside a coffee cup, and where a tarot card can make me stop and think about something I already knew somewhere deep inside myself.
I believe there is magic everywhere.
Not necessarily the kind of magic that makes things disappear in a puff of smoke.
The quieter kind. The magic of making something from nothing. The magic of putting words on a blank page. The magic of finding an old piece of clothing and seeing an entirely different person hiding inside it. The magic of a song arriving at exactly the right moment.
The magic of looking in the mirror and finally seeing yourself instead of everything you were taught was wrong with you.
That is magic.
Creativity is magic.
And I refuse to treat it like a luxury.
I am an artist because I create. I write because words need somewhere to go. I make things because my hands get restless when my imagination has nowhere to land.
I dress the way I do because clothing is not merely fabric hanging from a body. It can be language. It can be identity. It can be rebellion. It can be memory. It can be armor. It can be play.
Sometimes I want to look like a witch.
Sometimes I want to look like a rock star.
Sometimes I want to look like I wandered out of a Victorian cemetery at midnight.
Sometimes I want to look like I just got out of bed, because I did, and I don’t care what you think.
And that is the point.
I do not owe the world consistency.
I owe myself authenticity.
I will wear the black. I will wear the strange jewelry. I will wear the big black stompy platform boots.
I will wear the things that make me feel like myself, and I will stop dressing for the approval of people who don’t have to live inside my skin.
I will stop apologizing for growing older while still wanting to play dress-up.
I will stop believing that aging means becoming invisible.
There is nothing ridiculous about wanting beauty. There is nothing childish about wanting magic. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be delighted by your own reflection.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a little bit fucking weird.
In fact, I think weirdness might be one of the greatest gifts we have.
Because life itself is ridiculous.
We spend years worrying about whether we’re doing it right, only to discover that nobody actually knows what they’re doing.
We work and worry and pay bills and make appointments and wash dishes and lose socks and fall in love and get our hearts broken and laugh at stupid things and cry in bathrooms and drink too much coffee and wonder what the hell we’re doing here.
And then the sun comes up again.
So I’m going to live now.
Not when I have enough money. Not when my body looks different. Not when my career is exactly where I want it. Not when everything makes sense.
Now.
I will create in the middle of uncertainty.
I will make beauty in the middle of mess.
I will find humor in the absurdity.
I will allow myself to be both spiritual and sarcastic.
I will explore the shadows without deciding that the darkness makes me broken.
I will look at the parts of myself I was taught to hide and ask them what they need instead of throwing them into the basement of my psyche and pretending they don’t exist.
I will meet my inner child.
I will listen to my intuition.
I will question what I have been told.
I will learn.
I will change.
I will remain curious.
I will never be finished becoming or learning.
I don’t believe we are meant to become some final, perfected version of ourselves.
I think we are meant to keep evolving…
Again.
And again.
And again.
Like the moon. Like the seasons. Like trends. Like art.
Some days I will feel powerful. Some days I will feel lost.
Some days I will create something beautiful. Some days I will stare at a blank page and wonder if I have anything left to say.
Some days I will feel like a goddess. Some days I will feel like a goblin who needs coffee and a nap.
All are allowed. I don’t have to turn every experience into a lesson.
Sometimes a bad day is just a bad day. Sometimes life sucks and people suck.
Sometimes things don’t work out, at least not the way we want them to.
Sometimes the universe does not appear to have received the memo about my carefully constructed plans.
And sometimes the only reasonable response is to laugh. So I will…
But I will also make things and write. I will dress up, or perhaps I won’t.
I will wear something outrageous to the grocery store if I fucking feel like it.
I will light candles.
I will pull cards.
I will look at the stars.
I will listen to music that makes me feel something.
I will make art that doesn’t need to be profitable.
I will write words that don’t need to be approved.
I will surround myself with strange, beautiful, meaningful things.
I will collect stories, memories, and knowledge.
I will collect moments that make me feel alive. And I will remember that being alive is the whole damn point.
Not being perfect.
Not being productive every second.
Not being impressive.
Not being universally liked.
Alive.
Messy.
Creative.
Curious.
A little witchy.
A little goth.
A little ridiculous.
Completely human.
I will not shrink myself to make someone else’s version of normal more comfortable. I will not confuse conformity with happiness anymore.
I will not confuse exhaustion with success or possessions with abundance.
I will not confuse youth with beauty, darkness with evil, or softness with weakness.
And I will not confuse being different with being wrong.
My life does not need to make sense to everyone. It needs to make sense to me.
This is my permission slip.
To make the art.
To wear the clothes.
To write the words.
To follow the curiosity.
To explore the shadows.
To find the magic.
To laugh at the ridiculousness.
To change my mind.
To begin again (and again, and again).
To be strange.
To be unfinished.
To be entirely, unapologetically myself.
I am not waiting for my real life to begin.
This is it.
This messy, magnificent, absurd, magical thing.
So I am going to live it like I mean it.
In black lace and messy notebooks.
In boots and bare feet.
In poetry and profanity.
In moonlight and sunshine.
In laughter and grief.
In questions without answers.
In beauty that doesn’t need permission.
In creativity that refuses to die.
In a body that has carried me through every version of myself I’ve ever been.
In a soul that is still curious about what comes next.
I don’t need to become someone else. I need to become more fully myself.
And if that makes me too much?
Good.
Let me be too much.
Let me be strange.
Let me be creative.
Let me be witchy.
Let me be dark and colorful and soft and fierce and ridiculous and serious and spiritual and skeptical and hopeful and exhausted and alive.
Let me be a walking contradiction.
Because maybe that is what being human actually is.
Not a finished masterpiece, but work in progress.
…A spell still being written, or a story still unfolding.
A page still waiting for ink and a life still waiting to be lived.
And I intend to fucking live it.
