Self-motivation entails being prepared for focused, determined dialogue and activity. It also entails being keen and intelligent enough to avoid being duped and being open to constructive learning.

The trick is to stay in this state of mind! Fortunately, you have all of the tools you need to get started right now. Let's get started!

Make an effort to think positively.

When we're caught on thoughts like "Ugh, life sucks and it's raining," it's difficult to get anything done. These kinds of thoughts make us want to cuddle up in our mattresses until we are literally dragged out. You're not going to be able to accomplish it! Positive thinking is the only way to get motivated in the first place.

Build your self-assurance.

You must think positively about yourself in order to think positively about your world. If you believe you're incapable, you'll put a damper on how much effort you put into this work.

Why would you do something you don't think you're capable of? Exactly. You're not going to succeed.

To begin, make a list of your accomplishments. What advantages do you have? What have you done in the past that you thought was fantastic? What resources do you have available to you?

Consider everything you've accomplished in the past. What makes you think you won't be able to get what you want now?! You've done things like this before.

Concentrate on achieving positive objectives.

It's easy to figure out what we don't want. It's easy to figure out what we're terrified of. It's often difficult to determine exactly what makes us happy and what we're aiming for.

To get anything done, though, we must begin thinking in terms of good aims rather than negative concerns. A better objective than "I don't want to be impoverished" is "I'd like to save X amount of money every month." See how much more doable the latter is? And it's less frightening!

Keep it to a minimum.

It's difficult to set big ambitions. Rather of attempting to transform your entire life at once, certified life coach Sydney Axelrod recommends making little changes that will help you achieve your objectives.

Break down each objective into a sequence of manageable actions that you can complete. Then keep going—you might be amazed at how quickly you notice a difference in your life.

Keep motivators around you.

This one is pretty straightforward: we need reminders to keep ourselves going. These can be people or things -- whatever might keep you in the right mindset.

It's natural to get off-balance and forget where we want to be -- these external motivators offer focus and direction.

According to certified life coach Sydney Axelrod, affirmations and mantras are other great ways to support and motivate yourself.

Maintain good company.

People, unfortunately, may be demotivating. We all have that friend who begs us to eat another slice of cheesecake. That individual is not pleasant to be around.

Everyone needs cheerleaders along the road to get started on their journey to success! Inform your friends and family about your efforts to keep motivated.

Do you have a few close friends that can help you stay focused and motivated?

You should only compare yourself to yourself.

By Glenn Carstens-Peters on Unsplash

Comparing oneself to others is the fastest way to become demotivated. What's the point if you'll never be them and they'll never be you?

Even if you've heard it a million times, it's worth repeating: the only person to whom you should compare yourself is your prior self. It doesn't matter how well others are doing; it only matters whether you've improved.

This is why it's so important to keep track of your progress. To figure out where you are, you must first figure out where you've been. Whatever the competitor is doing, if you've made progress, you have nothing to be embarrassed of.
