"Wetin be these?"

We all know the Guinness Book of World Records. If you had a library in your school, you probably had some version of this incredible book. It was always interesting to flip through the glossy pages and find out the people around the world who have been doing extra-ordinary things and breaking world records.

It sometimes made you think, hmm maybe one day I can be in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Today, for some reason I remembered this book and thought to myself, what's going on with that book? Have any Nigerians made it in there? If so, who?

So I went digging and when I tell you that the records I was seeing...it reach to say wetin be this? Wetin I dey really look?

Some of these records are quite literally the most random, bizarre, confusing world records.

What I remember the world records being before were things like longest note held in a song, fastest man alive, etc.

But then the records these days, especially the ones held by Nigerians. I just have to show it to you because you have to see it for yourself.

Are your ready to jump in, then let's go!

1. Longest drinks pouring relay

According to Guinness Book of World Records:

The longest drinks pouring relay was achieved by 650 participants at an event hosted by Arla Foods (Nigeria) at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos, on 1 June 2018.

The record attempt was held on World Milk Day.

What kind of record is this?! 🤣

2. Most people washing their hands

According to the Guinness Book of World Records:

The most people washing their hands is 37,809 at an event organised by Lifebuoy Team and the federal government of Nigeria at TBS Onikan in Lagos, Nigeria on 14 October 2011.

The record was held to encourage children to wash their hands with soap and water to defeat diarrhea. This Record attempt was coordinated by Ecole de Dessin.

If Nigeria didn't carry this record, abeg who would? 🤣

3. Most fried dough balls made in 8 hours by a team

According to the Guinness Book of World Records:

The most fried dough balls made in 8 hours by a team is 38,897 achieved by Dangote Flour Mills Plc (Nigeria), in Lagos, Nigeria, on 27 October 2018.

Dough balls are known as puff puffs in Nigeria.

But wait oh, which other country is making puff puff?

4. Largest board game, Ludo

According to the Guinness Book of World Records:

The largest Ludo board game measured 9.65 m (31 ft 7 in) long and 9.65 m (31 ft 7 in) wide. It was created by Adesoye College Offa (Nigeria) and was presented and measured in Offa, Nigeria, on 3 July 2012.

Once again I ask, which other country is playing Ludo? I really thought this was a Nigerian board game created by Cabin Biscuits 🤣

5. Largest group of carol singers

According to the Guinness Book of World Records:

The largest group of carol singers was 25,272 by Godswill Akpabio unity choir (Nigeria) at the Uyo Township Stadium, Akwa Ibom,Nigeria, on 13 December 2014.

The choir sang a medley of The First Noel, Joy To The World, O Christmas Tree, Hark The Herald Sing, Once In Royal Davids City and O Come All Ye Faithful.

Sounds about right. THIS sounds about right!

6. Most consecutive football (soccer) touches in one minute while balancing a football on the head

According to the Guinness Book of World Records:

The most consecutive football (soccer) touches in one minute while balancing a football on the head is 111 and was achieved by Eche Chinoso (Nigeria) in Warri, Nigeria, on 14 November 2019.

Eche (nicknamed '(Amazing Kid Eche') decided to attempt this record to prove to other young Nigerians that anything is possible.

Again, nothing sounds more accurate to me than this record. Of course a young Nigerian boy holds such a record!

7. Longest duration spinning a plate on the finger

According to the Guinness Book of World Records:

The longest duration spinning a plate on the finger is 2 hr 14 sec, and was achieved by Esochaghi Victor (Nigeria), in Enugu sports club, Enugu, Nigeria, 21 July 2019.

Esochaghi attempted the record as a personal achievement.

You know what? I was going to say wetin dey there na, I too could have broken this record. Until I saw that Esochaghi did this for 2 HOURS. WOW! That is actually impressive.

That's All.
