We all might have encountered the videos of Ytiet official on TikTok. He is the Vietnamese viral sensation that creates and shares videos of himself singing numbers, most notably from 1- 100.

His videos have attracted a lot of attention so far. He has 1.4 million followers on TikTok alone. His videos have also been turned into YouTube compilations and music enthusiasts have added beats to his vocals creating Spotify worthy songs. He has been featured a couple of times on Snoop Dog’s social media and other mainstream celebrities' profiles. Millions from all over the world, myself included, love him and are hooked to his content.

But what captivates me the most about him, is the joy he has been bringing to us particularly in such a year like 2020. Who knew that numbers could make so many people so happy? Watching him just makes you smile. If you have encountered his videos, I know you are smiling right now.

Here are the lessons his story gives us.

The beauty in simplicity

Who would have guessed that numbers in song form could be so captivating! Not just for children or people learning a new language but for all demographics!

The simplicity of the content of what he sings and how he sings it, is his major attraction in my estimation. His music is raw. It is a pure voice devoid of beats or any background accompaniments and that is where its richness lies.

🎶 🎶 Thirty-three, thirty-four, thirty-five, thirty-six, thirty seveeeeeeeeeen, thirty-eight….

I love it!

Be yourself

You can tell just from his posts that he is a goofy, fun-loving, creative, and chill personality.

He didn’t go around looking to be ‘cool’, glossy, blingy, or being out there doing the most for people to be drawn to him.

He was simply himself, and it worked! From his videos looking at his expressions, you can tell he sings from the heart, feeling the music and the numbers he sings about deeply. He tells a story that hooks you up to the end with just numbers. He doesn’t have to use words to express himself. The music, how he feels and expresses it, do it for him. You feel him. You feel all his joys and pains.

Be authentic, is our take-home here. Authenticity draws people in.

Confidence

English must not be his native language. Even when he sings it, you can detect that he struggles with some pronunciations. He is also not the best singer in the world but these two reasons did not deter him from capturing the world’s attention with his creations.

His confidence is appealing.

Go for it! Believe in yourself is the lesson he teaches us.

Never ever be 77 to anyone

I have no idea what 77 did to him because it finishes him completely when he sings it. He looses his voice, hides his face, and leans on a tree while supporting his head. Damn 77!

What is going on in his head, you wonder? Does it remind him of a loss? Someone who hurt him?

Never take anyone to where 77 takes Soytiet. It doesn’t look like the most joyous place to be…

Or 28 and 45 for that matter. He seems to feel those numbers deeply.

Twist it up

After his audience was used to him singing consecutive numbers as they normally appear, in one video he can be heard singing backwards starting from 60 to 59( which he seems to skip) to 58, 57….

Many of us might not have seen that coming! Now we are like okay, what’s he gonna do next time…? In another video, he can be seen singing ABC in his numbers melody and singing numbers in Linkin Park’s Numbmelody in another.

He teaches us to create anticipation by avoiding monotony. Doing the unexpected. This way he manages to keep the attention of his audience.

In other videos and pictures on his social media, he can be seen playing soccer, hanging out with friends or drawing, etc. Even though his videos singing numbers are his main attraction, these other content also attract a lot of attention.

Opportunities are everywhere

He has managed to gather quite a following for himself on social media. Video compilations of him on YouTube, garner up to a million views.

If a good producer could get in touch with him, they could come up with a wonderful top-charting track. After all, he has managed to travel the globe only by himself with no corporate backing so far.

I would actually rock a t-shirt with his face on it. Particularly on that shot where 77 overcomes him. In this era of social media and instant fame, I sincerely hope that he gets to secure his bag through maximum monetization of his content. And I hope he enjoys longevity in the scene.

Start with what you have

He didn’t need expensive gadgets, top-notch studio equipment, makeup, designer shoes, or clothes to reach millions.

It is just him, his phone, his voice, and whatever location he is in. Whether it is his house, forest, beach, in the field hearing his cows or coconut farm.

Start with what you have. Start now! Let the big break find you on your way there. That’s the lesson here.
