The pandemic has disrupted lives and the economy in general and has left many people worse off.

Job losses, international lockdowns, and quarantine have left many of us struggling financially and has led to the deterioration of the mental health of millions.

There have been some personalities and companies that are thriving in the pandemic though.

8 People Who Are Winning In The Pandemic here .

And here are some lessons that we can pick from them.

Leverage the power of the internet

A lot of the people winning in the pandemic are doing so because they have leveraged on the power of social media and the internet in general.

Elsa Majimbo from Kenya and Soytiet from Vietnam have received international attention for posting simple and unique videos shot from their phones by them.

Even though the power of their content and delivery did it for them, it is the magical power of the internet that did the rest as their videos were watched, commented on and shared to millions through its avenues.

The internet has allowed people to shop from the comfort of their homes and to track the delivery of their items which Amazon a company whose profits have soared during the pandemic, has fully exploited to its benefit.

Build

You have to build something for you to reap from it. Build a company, a platform, something…

Those that had already built a platform on social media before the pandemic happened have better chances of succeeding in it.

Businesses that had already incorporated online systems of purchasing and delivering goods to households have enjoyed a tremendous boom in their business during the Pandemic. Amazon and other outlets such as food and pizza delivery companies are examples.

Content creators that had already created a stable platform before and are consistent in content creation during the pandemic have experienced a boom in the consumption of their content. As many outdoor avenues of entertainment are closed, many that seek to be entertained have turned to the internet and in the era of content creators, the prominent ones have enjoyed and benefited from this increased attention.

Being creative and creating art that can be monetised is also a way of building.

Consistency

Most of the personalities and businesses that are winning in the pandemic had already been creating products and content before it happened.

The pandemic didn’t stop them and they continued to do so while also improving, streamlining and adapting their business models, products and delivery.

Amazon had already been delivering products to households. When lockdown and quarantine happened, they just continued meeting the increased demand for home deliveries.

Beyoncé had already been creating and releasing music for decades. She had also been creating clothing through her Ivy Park brand. Soytiet had ready been creating and posting his videos where he sings numbers through his social media before the pandemic.

Prepare

The pandemic has taught us that being prepared is key to surviving in times of calamities.

Those that had made investments and had been saving were better cushioned against job losses and other inconveniences in the pandemic than those that had not.

Because some content creators had already built a platform and some companies such as Amazon had already created a system of ordering and delivering goods straight to homes, they had better chances of succeeding even in the pandemic.

The hard work they had put previously paid off.

Simplicity

From Soytiet and Elsa Majimbo, we can learn about the power of simplicity.

Both of these content creators have been creating simple videos using the tools available to them and posting them on their social media.

The simple videos shot on their mobile phones by themselves (in a bedroom for Elsa and wherever he is whether it is at home, in the field herding cows or the bush for Soytiet) teach us that simplicity has been key.

From them, we learn that you don’t need all the sophistication in the world or the biggest budgets in order to build a platform that can be monetised and be successful.

Start with what you have

This is also a lesson that we can learn from both Soytiet and Elsa Majimbo.

They started with the tools they had at the moment, and in the locations and situations that they were in. They singularly harnessed their talents, and minimal resources to build a platform for themselves which has generated income for them in the long run.

From them, we learn to never sit around for the big break but to start from where we are and with what we have at hand at the moment.
