Being passive is not the default mode of being human. It is in our nature to move, to want, and to direct ourselves toward something that we desire and deem valuable.
However, whether you are a business owner or an employee, whether you are 20 years old or 40, we all experience periods of slump. Those moments when, despite having a vague idea of what is good for us, the resolution and the strength to take action are lacking. And even in cases where we still manage to move, our actions tend to be ineffective.
During these times we need a nudge, something to help us reevaluate the importance of what we want and why we need to act.
The different stories of all successful people revolve around an unwavering desire to always move forward. They all show an incredible motivation that made it possible to triumph in the hours of truth. They also tell us that we can do the same. But how? How do these people get so easily motivated? How do we have the same motivation, especially since it never leaves us again?
This precious ally who is constantly packing
We have all already tried to implement new resolutions. Whether at the beginning of a new year or on other occasions. We are generally overexcited during the first days, the first weeks, or even the first months for the most stubborn. Then every step forward becomes extremely costly and we end up just giving up. There are many people who at the very beginning of their gym membership seem extremely determined to get that much-desired dream body. And thereafter, the majority gives up at the first aches.
This is also the business model of gyms, which offer subscriptions at very low prices because they are aware that a large percentage of their customers will simply rarely use their facilities.
Whether it's sports, food, education, or professional projects, we assume our strengths and capacity in the face of many challenges and then end up simply choosing to give up. The reason: lack of motivation.
And this usually causes us to feel guilty, helpless, and even frustrated. Motivation is a relatively complex subject that has been the subject of scientific studies for several decades. These many years of research allow us today to know much more about its different mechanisms.
Here are some keys to implement for more efficiency in our actions.
Set realistic and achievable goals
Knowing how to choose your goals in life is one of the main keys to self-induced motivation. Self-induced motivation introduces a concept where the objective, the goal to be achieved, intrinsically generates the motivation itself.
In other words, it is no longer necessary to seek the strength to move forward elsewhere. The goal is also what motivates. But it would still be necessary to know how to remain pragmatic. Knowing how to choose your fight and especially how to fight it is an extremely delicate thing and you have about a 90% chance of breaking your face if you only go with instinct and improvisation. This is why I invite you to read this article which explains the basics.
As a general rule, it should be remembered that for the same level of skills and resources, the person who is convinced of the realism of his ambition will be much more motivated than the person whose objective is not very clear.
What excites you
Motivation is a manifestation of the desire that one wishes to see realized. Find a goal that is in line with your values and aspirations and it will become your source of motivation. And of all the forms of motivation, there is, self-induced motivation is certainly the most enduring.
If you work every day just because you have to pay the bills at the end of the month, you wonder how hard it is to get up every morning to go. Nothing is exciting about paying bills all your life. Conversely, it's a whole different story if every day your job is to exercise what you are passionate about by moving toward your dreams.
You will wake up every day full of enthusiasm for the simple and good reason that all your efforts are directed toward this passion.
