The more interested we are in our careers, the more chances we have of getting to the very top of the food chain. Be that as it may, but career growth even in the smallest company imposes certain advantages. These include increases in wages and job satisfaction, as well as skill development and personal growth. All of these contribute to our overall quality of life.

But not all of us get promoted organically. Sometimes it happens that we and our work do not seem to be noticed at all. This happens for various reasons. Without delving into these reasons, we state only that if we want to achieve something, then we need to make some important conscious decisions.

Come up with a 5-year plan.

The overwhelming majority of us go to work either to wipe our pants, follow orders from our superiors, or because we are no longer capable of anything in this life except for someone else to work. And talking about some kind of development plan, in this case, is absolutely meaningless. But if you are ambitious and want to build a career, then you need a development plan for a certain period. Everything is built on this.

The ultimate goal of such a plan is to have more in-demand skills and abilities than you had yesterday. That is, to develop personally and professionally. As a result, even if you don’t find a more interesting position in your job, you can always find a more attractive place in the sun for yourself in a completely different place. But here it is just as important to understand that each of your new steps in career advancement should be qualitatively higher than the previous one.

Identify and accept your weaknesses.

In any interaction in society, it is very important to know your strengths and weaknesses. And be honest with that. For example, you know that you are responsible, but you have a weak character. Without accepting your essence, it is likely that after a certain time they will sit on your head and shift someone else’s work onto you. As a result, you will find yourself in a trap when your authority will be drowned by their incompetence by those who sat on your head.

And this hits not only your morale and motivation but everything that you have planned in your five-year plan. Therefore, you will either have to work with your shortcomings, or else look for career opportunities that exclude others from using your weaknesses. Remember that you will never build any career at all without personal growth and painstaking and difficult work on yourself.

Money is not always the most important thing.

Salary levels are not always the main indicator of your dream job or position to aspire to. Often, doing what you like for less money is much more enjoyable than raping yourself every day for a thousand more. After all, the accompanying negativity settles on your productivity, health, and other important things. Anything that makes you less effective in striving for something more important.

Falling into such a trap, will not only be incredibly difficult for you to implement your plan, but you may well convince yourself that this money is worth enduring further. Employers are aware of the effectiveness of such traps, and they often surround you with comfortable working conditions, free buns and coffee, and other nonsense that will not let you out until they squeeze everything out of you. This is important and must always be remembered.

Find a role model.

Everyone around us always has a lot to learn. If you are lucky enough to work in a large team, then for sure you can observe a very bright extraordinary personality, a real leader. Throw away the jealousy, professional anger, and other nonsense that prevents you from accepting this person’s management skills, or anything you can learn from him. This is an invaluable experience that you will not know anywhere else.

All the greats of this world learned from someone and imitated someone. And this applies not only to management skills. Feel free to ask or ask for help from those above you professionally. Often, normal people willingly share their experience, and relying on it, they try to jointly solve any problems that arise. This practice will allow you to rise not only professionally but also raise your authority.

Analyze and summarize as often as possible.

In order to move up the corporate ladder, it is important to separate your turnover from the work and plans that are supposed to help you grow. All of your priorities should be focused on your growth plan. In addition, it is periodically necessary to analyze how things are generally progressing in this context and to summarize. Taking stock is very important to understand where and how fast you are going.

Analyzing and summing up the results, you will understand what prevents you from achieving the result and whether it is possible to achieve it at all. If you see that for one reason or another you will not be able to achieve the set task, then it is better to give it up and do something else. And it is better if you do it on time, without wasting your precious time and energy.
