We often associate being bored with being lazy, unmotivated, and unproductive. It doesn't have to be though.

Striving to always be productive and achieve something is not in my opinion, a very healthy lifestyle choice.

We're allowed to chill, watch the sunset go down, and enjoy a cup of coffee on the porch.

But when we're bored, we can't find it in us to enjoy the simplest things or simply relax. More often than not, we're actually restless and need to take action to get rid of that boredom feeling.

This kind of situation can be a great opportunity to actually get some things done. Taking action and doing something productive relieves us from boredom, makes us feel great about ourselves for having accomplished something, and also improves the quality of our lives.

So here are some 36 productive ideas to inspire you whenever you're bored and have some free time on your hands.

Reflect

1-Do an overview of your finances, budget, savings...

2-Write down your general goals for this year, five years from now, and ten years from now...

3-Decide on what needs fixing or improvement in your life: both personal and professional. What skills do you need to improve? What training or therapy do you need? In which areas do you feel self-conscious?

4-Journal: pour your heart out on paper. Let all your doubts, fear, anxieties, and excitement out.

Inspire

5-Create a dream life vision board or album.

6-Create a bucket list: places you want to visit, events you want to attend, adventures you want to experience...

7-Create an inspirational board. This has worked for me even better than the vision board. Simple assemble pictures of real-life personas or fictional characters that truly inspire you as well as quotes and sayings that speak to you on a board and hang it somewhere where you can see it on daily basis.

8-Create a list of the books you want to read

9-Arrange a playlist of your happy go-to songs.

Service

10-Do a volunteer job: find an association or charity cause that is dear to your heart and figure out how you could help.

11-Think of a friend, relative, or colleague that needs support and do something for them. It could be as simple as sending them a heartfelt message to encourage them in their hard times or baking something for them if you know they're so busy they can't cook for their family.

Organize & Declutter

12-Do a social media decluttering: unfollow everyone who no longers inspire you.

13-Arrange your wardrobe: separate it into things you'll keep, throw away, donate or sell.

14-Organize your pantry

15-Unsubscribe from all monthly subscriptions, services, and newsletters that you no longer use or love.

Plan

16-Plan and create your budgets

17-Create a savings plan

18-Plan your vacation: look for hotels, note down addresses, create vacation finance, scroll down outfits ideas to pack up

19-Plan out your holiday meals, gifts, and events

20-Plan out your next home renovation

21-Create a weekly meal plan

Care for yourself

22-Find a workout or challenge to improve what you don't like about your body

23-Prepare some DIY beauty creations you need: face masks, homemade body butter

24-Arrange your beauty product shelves

25-Make a list of beauty products you need.

26-Batch cook some healthy snacks like energy balls or protein bars

Improve yourself

27-Practice some hairstyles

28-Put on some outfit ideas together.

29-Watch a documentary, listen to a podcast, or research to catch up on a subject you're curious about

30-Take some personality tests

31-Do some meditation

32-Connect with someone on a language learning and exchange app like Tandem

33-Compile all your favorite recipes into a recipe book

34-Download a habit-building app and start working on a new habit you want to acquire

35-Take a free online course to learn a new skill you want or think you need

36-Catch up on the news and current events

Hope this small list of productive things will be inspiring next time you feel bored! (or maybe even when you don't)
