Towels are one of the things that aren’t necessarily bought every day, which is why you must get the best one for yourself. But picking the perfect towel isn’t a cakewalk.

Fabrics

• Egyptian Cotton Towels

Definitely more luxurious, this fabric is one of the highest qualities of cotton. Egyptian Cotton is well-absorbent and fleecy; however, such luxury comes with its price as Egyptian Cotton towels are the most expensive.

• Turkish Cotton Towels

This fabric is comparably less absorbent than Egyptian Cotton which is better suited for warmer climates.

• Linen Towels

Towels made of linen are long-lasting, soft and have the property to drying quickly. Using linen towels rejuvenates the skin as they have natural exfoliating properties.

• Microfiber Towels

Porous and weightless, Microfiber is a rather new blend which can capture dirt, dry skin, oils and more without chemicals.

• Organic Cotton Towels

Naturally, cotton is a very absorbent and soft material which make organic cotton towels increasingly popular and affordable.

• Synthetic Fibre Towels

This type of fabric may not be the most durable or soft or absorbent but it very affordable and most standard towels are made of synthetic fibre.

• Supima Cotton Towels

Supima Cotton is widely known for its softness, much like the Egyptian Cotton, both of which are hard-wearing and absorbent.

• Bamboo Towels

Bamboo is an anti-bacterial and penetrable material; pure bamboo towels are quite hard to find.

How to keep towels soft and clean

According to Healthline, you have 19 million skin cells and 650 sweat glands in every inch of your body. And one powerful tool keeps it all clean day after day: your bath towel.

Experts say, you can’t keep you towels 100% germ-free. But you keep yourself germ-free by cleaning you towels right.

Whether you use one towel or six, you must know what to do for keeping them sterile and comforting. Practice towel laundry after every 3-6 uses; washcloths used for scrubbing and cleaning must be air-dried after every use.

It is encouraged to wash towels on their own, having other materials washed separately in order to avoid deterioration of fabrics. When washing, be sure to separate the darks apart from the lights. Also, do not consider using fabric softeners no matter how appealing it may seem. Most fabric softeners leave residue, strip away the softness and damage the towels’ absorbing properties.

Washing your towels before using them is not a necessary practice but if you want to help set the dye, improve absorbency or lessen any lint, you can throw the new towels in wash.

When is the right time to get a new towel

All towels lean on quality and how they are taken care of. Logically, very low-priced towels must be replaced if exposed to extremely hot water or if they get sunbaked. When towels don’t seem as effective and remain damp for longer, it’s time for a replacement. All in all, make sure to read the towel’s product tag and wash them as per the instructions to take full advantage of it.

With good care, a bath towel should last a long time.

Why old towels should not be used

Towels retain the moisture from your skin which soon become home to many unseen microbes (fungi, bacteria, viruses, protozoa). It isn’t hard to tell if a towel is not effective anymore. Do not practice using old towels especially on sensitive skin as the microbes can cause permanent skin inflammation and some other infectious diseases.

There are many kinds of towels which meet most of your needs in softness, durability and more. Be sure to keep your towels sanitary and replace them in the right time.
