It was an average day in town, but an important one personally for Vijaya Kumar ( Anonymous name)!A young man of 25. He was thin, fair and handsome. But this good-looking young man was traveling towards a monastic center about 80 km from home.

The thoughts of leaving home and leaving everybody to lead a renunciate life were looming a lot on the young man’s head.

The background

This youngster was dedicated and arrogant. He met the secretary of the popular monastic center cum social service movement. The secretary was a scholar about sixty years old. This secretary having a pleasant smile often enquired many things about this new trainee to this monastic center. Here, there were other monastic trainees mostly in their 20s and all were graduates or postgraduates. Someone from a rich family, another one from a poor background, a physically robust novice, a thin one, and a tall one. All lived in peace and cooperation having a common goal of enlightenment or moksha.

In the initial few days of voluntary work, the young man tried to perform well. Due to his limitations which was the result of a motor accident that took place a few years ago, he was unable to work well. The office work in a peaceful place even though was reasonable but Vijaya Kumar was unable to work well. He was having attention deficiency.

The responsibilities

The two essential parts of this monastic cum service center were meditation, prayers, and voluntary service. Even though the spiritual part was done well, the service part was not up to mark. This deficiency on the part of Vijaya Kumar was pointed out by the Secretary of the center.

Vijayakumar was disappointed. His half heart was filled with thoughts about his home and parents.

Then the secretary advised him to try breathing exercises. He also asked him to get guidance from the office accountant.

The limitations

A few days later, again Vijaya Kumar was called and the secretary said “The accountant says he found discrepancies in your work.” The accountant also found some errors in the work style of Vijaya Kumar.

These two limitations and a slow approach led to the relieving of Vijayakumar from the tasks assigned to him.

The two advice

The secretary said ” Take treatment and come”, “Meet me now and then” These two pieces of advice by this scholar-monk are analyzed by Vijaya Kumar even today after 30 years of such a happening.

Had I met him few times in a year, how far would it have benefited me? why I didn’t go even once to meet the scholar-monk?

Had I gone to meet such a person, I would have overcome many of my life problems like arrogance, lack of attention to my spiritual practices.and also my profession.

The flashbacks

The scholar monk’s advice would have helped me in my business also. How another young man who dropped out later benefitted immensely because of the regular contact with the scholar-monk! These are the flashbacks and memories that take place in Vijayakumar’s mind.

The second piece of advice is” Take treatment and come”, Vijayakumar laments later.

This extraordinary advice given 30 years back would have benefitted me because no one can help himself fully.

A psychologist would have helped me at least to a certain extent.”

The resource and its timely utilization

It is a puzzle in life because we sometimes think that If we were like him. Comparing ourselves with them, but why don’t most of us think ” how he utilized the valuable advice of a qualified person? Why I did not use and follow such advice.

It is not for want of the resources but the timely utilization of such resources that make lots of differences leading to success.

Again, it may not be the monetary resources, It is the knowledge resource when utilized in time make a lot of difference in life leading to a successful and happier life.
