I initially wrote this article in the beginning of the year, to all the people who make “new years resolutions”. But I’ve now rewritten it because it actually applies to any time in life.

Every year, people all over the world are promising themselves all kinds of things… and 90% of those plans slowly fade away and die a quiet death over the next few months.

We all know it, we’ve all done it:

“Starting next year, I’ll start living healthier”

“Starting next year, I’ll go to gym”

“Starting next year, I’m going to earn more”

“Starting next year, I’m going to read a book every month”

“Starting next year, I’ll be there more for my family”

New year, new goals.. blabla!

Do you want to know something funny?

Your (new years) goals are NOT important to you!

Why? Well because if they were so important, you wouldn’t wait till a new year to act on them, no?!

What? Do you think something magical will happen that will change your life forever? Right… Wanna bet next year will be the same as this year?

C’mon, let’s get serious now.

Don’t fall into the “all or nothing trap”

Many people think that starting from the new year, they’ll suddenly “magically” will get the energy to go do the gym 3 times per week,

or that they’ll suddenly get the knowledge or cooking skills to start eating healthy,

or that their boss is going to say “hey John, I’ve decided to give you a HUGE raise so you can finally buy your dream car this year”.

Ehhm....What?!

It just doesn’t work that way.

Let me ask you something…

  • Are you waking up full of energy, ready to start the day?
  • Are you coming home from work, still having energy and being motivated to work on a side hustle?
  • Are you physically all right?
  • Do you have mental focus?
  • Do you have people around you that support you & your goals?

→ If you don’t do these things, then this is the FIRST thing you need to work on.

1. Step by step

It’s good that you made goals for the next year, but you have to take it step by step.

It doesn’t take that much time to change your life, it just takes a few small but crucial changes.

If you don’t do this, then you’ll get tired after a few weeks. Yes, you’ve been going to the gym, like you said you would, but your motivation slowly ebbs away, week after week.

Sounds familiar?

2. Change your mornings

When I started my “new life”, the first thing I did was change my mornings.

DEFINETELY check these articles I wrote on Medium.com

These days, what I’m doing every day is the following:

  • Morning: Exercise, stretch, healthy breakfast & read
  • Day: Day job, study, hustle
  • Evening: Side hustle, learn, plan, read, relax, sleep like a baby

Simply said: over time, I changed / developed better habits.

3. Bad habits, bad influence

The problem these days is that most people have bad habits. They live unhealthy lives, inspired by TV and social media.

Today’s world is ruled by media, big corporations, advertising, social image, etc. Think about it. You’re watching TV, and you see an ad about some new sort of food or drink. Next time you go shopping, you see this item and you think to yourself “hmm, it looked good in the ad, let’s give it a try”. And you buy it.

Another example: On social media it seems “cool” to have “lazy Sunday”. You see Instagram stories about it, people chilling etc. You might think “wow cool”, open a bottle of wine, order some take-away and post an Instagram story as well.

This needs to change.

4. Bad social circle

If all day long you hang around with people who play video games, smoke and drink, you’re extremely likely to do the same.

Go to network evenings, reconnect with old classmates, approach people you admire.

If you have 2 millionaire friends, you’re going to be the third.

5. You NEED Energy

This is the MOST IMPORTANT sentence of all.

You.Need.Energy.

If you answered “No” to the statements above, then how the hell are you going to achieve your goals?

Come on! In order to succeed in becoming successful in life (becoming wealthy, wealthy and free), you need energy.

After finishing your day job, you still need to have enough energy, focus and motivation to work on your side business. You need mental and physical focus to hustle and build successful extra income streams.

And not only that, if you take care of your health, you’ll automatically become happier, more optimistic, brighter, more energetic, and you’ll enjoy life more! Trust me, I’ve been there.

2023 will be the same as 2022 if you don’t act consistently!

-

Conclusion

So, smart will small changes, but consistently keep doing them.

  • Develop new habits
  • Start small, slowly pick up the pace
  • Keep a plan & schedule
  • Plan your mornings

→ Are you READY?!

I know I am!
