The rustic farmhouse vibe is becoming more and more popular. A home that makes you feel like you are out in the peaceful country simply can’t be beat. Whether you actually live in the country, or you just relate to Toby Keith when he sings “I shoulda been a cowboy” there are many simple ways to make your home feel like you’re out on the ranch. After following these décor steps, all that will be left is to buy a cowboy hat and a belt buckle and your life will never be the same.

If you don’t know where to start, here are a few simple things that you can use to get you started.

1. Antlers

Some hunters have acquired quite the collection of antlers that they don’t know what to do with. Antlers are the perfect décor for giving a rustic feel to your home. Here are a few ways you can use your antlers.

Antlers are great for hanging things of all kinds such as coats, purses, jewelry, and towels.

Antlers can be used in many creative ways to make unique chandeliers. I recently saw deer antlers used on a wagon wheel chandelier.

If you can manage to weave a few antlers together to form a bowl shape it makes for a great centerpiece. Place décor balls or fruit in them.

Got some wine bottles? Antlers can be a creative way to rack your antique wine bottles.

2. Block Lettering

This one is simple. Remember, simple is always better on the ranch. All you have to do is label each room with some big, block lettering such as “Kitchen” or “Laundry” or “Porch.” Another effective way to use block lettering is to hang simple words or phrases such as “Family” or “Gather” or “Home.” Also, if you don’t have your last name hanging somewhere with the year the family was established, then do you really have a farmhouse?

3. Wood

The more wood the better. Use wood on everything possible. Cabinets, tables, dressers, chairs, floors, shelves, wall fixtures, etc. Wood beams across the ceiling will do as good of a job as anything to provide the farmhouse feel. Always remember, wood is good.

4. Horseshoes

I have seen many creative ways to use horseshoes over the years. Last Christmas one of my friends gave me a horseshoe key holder and it has been the perfect addition to the mudroom. They can also make great racks for boots and shoes. Like antlers, they also can be a fun way to rack bottles. Also, everyone loves a creative toilet paper holder, and a horseshoe can do just that.

5. Mason Jars

A mason jar can make for a great soap dispenser. If you have a spare tube dispenser then simply poke a hole in the top of the mason jar and slide it down. Mason jars can be a great means of storage for bathroom products like cue tips, cotton balls, and toothbrushes. They also make for a great spot to put small plants.

6. Fireplace

Sure, this one isn’t as simple as the rest, but nothing says cozy quite like a fireplace does. There are many types of fireplaces, and the perfect one for your home will depend on a variety of factors such as size, space, location, and budget. If you have room for it, I personally love a nice wood-burning fireplace.

If used right, you are going to be shocked at the twist that these simple objects can have on your home. Your dream farmhouse isn’t as far as you thought and you are on your way to becoming a cowboy.
