Why Make Your Own Soap?

Soap making is an art form on its own. Not only is it an extremely relaxing process, but making your own soap comes with a million other benefits! From every customised batch that you pour into the moulds to each aromatic scent that you add into the beautiful handmade soaps, each step has its unique experience. But why should you make your own soap when there are so many commercial soaps that you can buy online?

Let’s discuss in detail:-

1. Better products, lesser costs

While commercially produced soap can be had for a low price thanks to discounts, sales, coupons, and other promotions, producing your own soap can save you more money in the long run. Yes, the initial cost of components may seem like a lot but the majority of containers will hold enough for numerous batches of soap for you and your friends and family! You will have enough natural, fragrant, lather-filled soap to use after each batch you produce. For years to come, the equipment you buy will be useful, and the initial investment will pay off quickly as you discover the numerous benefits of making your own soap.

2. Say goodbye to harmful ingredients!

If you make your own soap, you can avoid all of the bad additives like SLS and parabens that are commonly found in commercially made soaps. These ingredients are not just bad for those with sensitive skin, normal skin tends to react to these chemicals in the long run as well. Parabens can disrupt the function of our normal hormones and SLS can lead to allergic reactions such as eczema too. Nobody wants that for their skin!

3. Add your own secret ingredients

Why settle on regular looking soaps when you can customise them with ingredients from your kitchen? There’s so much you can do with so little when you choose to make your own soap. Want that healthy glow? Try adding turmeric! It acts as an antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory properties and gives a beautiful deep-yellow/orange color to your soap as well. Want to get rid of wrinkles and spots? Soothe your skin with some saffron leaves. Looking for a homemade and non-harsh body scrub? Just add a bit of oat!

4. Your soap, your fragrance

Making your own soap at home allows you to use essential oils to scent it and benefit from its unique characteristics. Take lavender oil for relaxation, lemongrass for energising, or peppermint scented soap for seasonal inspiration. Using essential oils allows you to create your own unique aroma for your homemade soap. If you’re someone who likes fruity or floral fragrances, add those fragrances! And if you have sensitive skin, skip the fragrance altogether!

5. Save on packaging, save the environment

Have you ever wondered how each plastic pack of your store-bought soap can harm the environment? Considering that you use at least two soaps or finish a bottle of shower gel every month, you contribute to the tonnes of toxic plastic waste that is discarded to the environment. Instead, make your own soap because you can purchase the soap base in bulk. For every 1 kg of soap base, you can make 10 soaps and you wouldn’t be using single-use plastic.

6. Melt and pour!

Making your own soap does not mean handling harmful chemicals. You can easily make them with the top quality soap bases from Soapy Twist. The soap making process is super easy too. Just cut the heat the melt and pour base, melt it, add your favourite colours, fragrances and anything additional if you’d like and pour the mixture into the moulds. And voila! Your beautiful customised soap will be ready after it has completely cooled down. If you’d like your soaps to be scent-free - you can just cut the base in the desired size and use it as it is.
