Welcome to the Vocal Café

an unconventional Vocal Facebook group

So, I'm pretty new to Vocal (and Medium). I'm not a Vocal+ member, but even so I've enjoyed my experience so far. One thing I like about Vocal is that there's no limit on the amount of stories/articles/posts you can read, unlike other sites that have you become a member in order to read more than a handful of stories a day or month. So that's very refreshing!

And Vocal/Medium already feels like a family and a great community even though I've only been a member for a short time so far. There's something inviting and homey about it, and the fact that it's not a giant behemoth of a platform so doesn't feel overwhelming. I'm glad I joined just after they launched their new Subscribe function too, so that's pretty cool. I'm looking forward to what Vocal and Medium will become in the coming months and years!

Another thing I like is the various Facebook groups that have been created for people to share their Vocal/Medium writings with each other to get reads and subscribers, which is great because writers (and readers!) need to support their fellow writers! And sharing to your own Facebook pages, or Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Quora etc. can only go so far, so it's great that we have:

The Vocal Creators Support Group

Vocal Creators Saloon

Vocal Media Creators Hub

Vocal Social Society

Vocal Progressive Group for Writers and Readers

And these are all fantastic groups that can help you get your writings out to a wider audience and I highly recommend all of them. I'm sure there are other Facebook groups as well, so apologies to any that I've missed!

But I felt like there was a group that was missing. That there needed to be a Vocal/Medium group that wasn't about swapping or sharing story/article links, but more about the craft of writing itself and getting support, encouragement, and perhaps even a place to rant and vent from fellow Vocalers (Vocalists?) and Mediumites.

And that's why I created the Vocal & Medium Café!

What do people do at cafés? They meet up with friends to discuss, brainstorm, encourage, vent, whine, rant, get support and help.

And that is what the Vocal & Medium Café is all about! It isn't just another Vocal/Medium Facebook group to share your stories under different story threads (or individual posts), because you can find plenty of that in the above-mentioned already popular groups!

So the Vocal/Medium Café Facebook group will be free of Vocal/Medium story links (yes, a little unconventional!). You can share your Vocal Profile in the Featured Announcement post at the top of the page so people can subscribe/follow you if they like the type of stuff you write about, but that's the only Vocal links in the group (please and thanks!).

If you want advice/suggestions/help with a certain story you've written that's already been published on Vocal/Medium, you can post about what your issue is and direct group members to your group profile linked in the announcements, so that they can go to your profile and find your story in question that way (and also by doing that, they might even see other writings of yours that catch their eye that they may want to read - Bonus!).

There are specific threads to get advice for under various "corners". So far there's: the Challenge Corner, the Fiction Corner, the Non-Fiction Corner, the Poetry Corner, the Articles Corner, the Celebration Corner, the Vent/Rant Corner, and the Writing Prompts Corner.

And there will be a weekly Writing Inspiration thread, too under which I'll share some writing tips. I'll also be sharing various articles (and others are welcome to as well!) on writing advice, such as finding your writing voice and to be on the lookout for scammy publishers, just to name a few that are already up!

And with that said, you can check out the Vocal Café: here.

I'd love to see you there!

So pull up a chair, grab your favourite beverage of choice, and let's get chatting about our Vocal writing journeys!

If you've enjoyed this piece, please consider sharing it, leaving a heart, or if you feel so inspired, a tip (no obligation though!). Your support means a lot to me! Thank you!
