Pundits have pointed out that efficiency is a product of how professionals view work and more importantly, their approach to different tasks within their jurisdiction. Therefore, a different approach towards tasks is a game changer towards productivity. In this piece, we look at the five tasks that have a huge potential in changing corporate productivity.

1. Create a culture of reading.

We are fortunate to live in a world where information is readily available—compared to some seven decades ago. Therefore, it is the duty of every professional to enrich themselves and more specifically, to expand their understanding of different concepts in their area of specialization. If one is a human resource profession, investing in top HR books should be a priority. Luckily, there are many resourceful books on this niche, and investing in knowledge is not only advisable for any professional, but it is a recipe for growth. However, one should have an open mind when investing in books since different authors have different approaches to passing information.

2. Learn how to set and follow goals.

Planning and executing on plans is critical, especially in this age of competition. Experts have attributed productivity to planning, and this connection paints a better picture of the importance of planning in the world of work. Although planning is a vast topic, there are different approaches professionals can use when planning. When choosing an approach to planning, one should consider the following factors. First, any approach to planning should give you the room to modify your plans to fit your schedule. Second, any approach should be customizable.

3. Ensure that sleeping and resting are in your schedule.

Did you know that some of the most productive people in the world have enough sleeping time? Although having goals and tight schedules is critical for any professional, the human body is unique—and the more on rests, the more productivity. Therefore, allocating time for sleep and general rest is critical in productivity for any professional. Even though there are different guidelines for sleeping and resting, you should choose a guideline based on your work schedule and responsibilities. For example, if you work on five days, the weekend should be strictly for resting.

4. Prioritize tasks for maximum productivity.

Did you know that most people in the corporate world fail in productivity due to the lack of prioritizing tasks? In the last six decades, professionals have come with different models in an attempt of explaining this concept, and one of the best models is—80/20 approach. According to this approach, the more the tasks, the less the efficiency. For example, more tasks means less time in the execution and therefore, less productivity. On the other hand, if there are fewer tasks, a professional has more time on each task and therefore, more productivity on each task.

5. Customize your approach to work.

Although most professionals view work as an obligation—and therefore have rigid approaches— there are different ways to spice up your time in tasks. One of the best ways to customize your work is by creating unique routines, while handling tasks. If you are more productive while drinking coffee, then you should ensure you have a mug of coffee before any task. However, a routine should not create a dependence to work. Second, you should ensure that the working space is favorable for productivity. If you look at a working space that is less noisy, you should inform other people you share the working space with, on your principles and expectations.

In conclusion, efficiency is a product of different inputs. Although there is no ideal approach to productivity, experts believe that there are different ways professionals can use to increase their input. In each of the five tips on productivity, one must acknowledge that the success of each step depends on one’s dedication and more importantly, the willingness to combine two or more of the above tips.
